We are looking for a midwife for Tasiilaq from February 10, 2026, preferably for a permanent position or a minimum 3-month contract. The midwife will travel on February 14, and there will be an opportunity for a good introduction before she travels.
We can offer:
-
Good interdisciplinary collaboration
-
Work tasks that include: pregnancy consultations, food guards, early intervention, contraception, as well as close collaboration with our doctors, interpreters, and interdisciplinary cooperation with the municipality, health care services, and the maternity ward regarding pregnancy and childbirth.
-
Introduction from the midwife who is present when you arrive.
-
The birth attendants are shared with a trained midwife (a Greenlandic education that no longer exists, midwives can assist with normal births).
We are looking for you who:
-
Is trained as a midwife and has experience in the field, as the position requires a lot of independence because you are mostly the only midwife in the town.
-
Has good collaboration skills and is adaptable to the situations one may encounter as a midwife.
-
Can provide advice on contraception and help prevent abortions and sexually transmitted diseases.
-
Can support and help our pregnant women have a good and healthy pregnancy and birth.
About us:
The regional hospital is in Tasiilaq and is located in the Kangia region, East Greenland, where we also have 5 associated villages, each with their own nursing stations.
Those from the settlements also come to Tasiilaq to give birth.
The midwifery office and delivery room are an integrated part of the Regional Hospital, which also consists of a medical clinic, a ward with 18 beds, an operating theater, an emergency room, midwifery services including deliveries, health care, psychiatric and somatic home nursing, TB nursing, and the city's pharmacy.
There are about 50 births a year. Some pregnant women at risk for various complications are often referred to give birth in Nuuk.
We are about 50 employees and have 5 associated health centers in Tiilerilaaq, Sermiligaaq, Kulusuk, Kuummiut, and Isertoq. Pregnant women in the villages come in for scheduled prenatal check-ups and births.
We place great importance on interdisciplinary collaboration; it is an important part of the midwife's work to support, refer, and assist pregnant women in their contact with municipal authorities, as some of the pregnant women may be psychosocially burdened. This may involve meetings regarding late-term abortions or referrals for early intervention, as well as contact regarding housing conditions.
The midwife's task is also to advise individuals on contraception, support the pregnant woman during pregnancy, but also support the pregnant woman if she wishes to have an abortion.
A little about Tasiilaq:
Tasiilaq is the largest town in East Greenland with around 3000 inhabitants, including the 5 surrounding settlements.
The town is remote but has the most beautiful nature and views right outside the door.
Nature close to the city offers many hiking opportunities, fresh air, and in winter the possibility for cross-country skiing, going to the ski lift, and taking snowmobile and dog sledding trips through local tour operators. Especially in summer, there are opportunities for sailing and cabin trips.
