The Danish Tax Agency, which is the country's highest tax authority and handles operational tasks in the areas of tax, duties, and collection, is seeking customs officers (tax and duty consultants) with the potential for a service dog in the future for employment starting August 1, 2026, or by agreement.

As a Customs Officer in Nuuk/Qaqortoq, you will be part of a team with other customs officers in Greenland. Therefore, it is important that you emphasize good collaboration, are solution-oriented, and are prepared for a sometimes hectic everyday life, where quality in task execution and service is paramount.

Organizational placement and work tasks

The positions are located at the Customs and Excise Office in the Tax Agency's Department for Taxes and Control, Nuuk/Qaqortoq.

  • The department covers the following areas: Advice and guidance for citizens and businesses, employer control, assessment and auditing of companies and larger businesses, etc., as well as customs and duties. As a customs officer, you will be responsible for the following tasks: Control of traveling air passengers.
  • Control of air freight, mail, and shipping consignments
  • Physical inspection of aircraft and ships, etc.
  • Supervision and training of customs staff on the coast
  • Administrative tasks related to customs duties including risk analysis, control of import and export documents, control reports, etc.
  • Relevant legislation on the import and export of goods and upon entry.
  • Professional systems including internal and external IT systems and scanners
  • Dog handler training and courses both in Greenland and Denmark
  • General information about control strategy and theme days on customs tasks
  • Special training in confined spaces on ships in Denmark and Greenland

There will be rotating shifts and a fair amount of travel activity, so you should expect that there may be work on weekends.

For the position in Qaqortoq, other administrative tasks may also be expected depending on your background and experiences.

Qualifications

We expect that you, as an applicant for the position, possess a natural authority, are good at communicating and engaging in dialogue with others, function well both in groups and independently, have good collaboration skills, can handle sometimes demanding physical work, are outgoing, and have good language skills in Greenlandic, Danish, and English.

Good skills with dogs and preferably experience with service dogs will also be an advantage.

The working hours are 40 hours per week. However, one should expect staggered working hours, including on weekends and holidays.

Salary and employment conditions

Salary and employment conditions, including the right to relocation travel and moving expenses, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

Housing

No housing is provided for the position. If an applicant already has housing through employment in the Self-Government, the right to the assigned housing is retained. The housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon termination of the employment relationship.
