Department Head in the Department of Children, Youth, Justice, and Gender Equality

The Department of Children, Youth, Justice and Gender Equality is seeking an engaged department head who can ensure progress and development in the area of cross-cutting projects and monitoring

The Department of Children, Youth, Justice and Gender Equality is looking for an ambitious department head who thrives at the intersection of coordination, process management, and collaboration. A department head focused on professionalism, who enjoys driving, coordinating, and implementing politically initiated action plans and strategies within the child and youth sector.

In the Department, we focus on strengthening conditions for children and youth, and we must ensure that we as an organization realize political goals in our area of responsibility. We are looking for a department head who, together with the department's other managers and employees, is focused on creating progress and elevating a very important area.

The position of department head is organizationally anchored in the Department for Cross-Cutting Projects and Monitoring, where the tasks include translating strategic goals into concrete actions, developing and planning the implementation of strategies and action plans in the area of responsibility as well as political servicing.

The Department for Cross-Cutting Projects and Monitoring also works with the development and implementation of social policy initiatives for children and youth in close collaboration with the underlying unit, the Social Agency – including in relation to suicide prevention, early intervention, and outreach work in families, preventive initiatives regarding placements outside the home, and mental health.

The Department is also responsible for legislative processes in the area of responsibility, where the department head plays a central role in ensuring high professional quality, timeliness, and political understanding in all legal deliveries. The department includes two lawyers who work with both the development of legislation, legal analysis, and quality assurance of materials for political servicing.

About the position
In your daily work, you will have management responsibility for currently 9 engaged and ambitious employees, and you will have close collaboration with the department's management group.
The tasks as department head include, among other things:
-    Process management, ensuring quality and progress in strategic work and other politically initiated tasks
-    Management of the department's employees
-    Coordination and prioritization of the department's tasks
-    Providing professional support to the department's employees
-    Ensuring development and operation of internal management tools
There will be a number of administrative and finance-related tasks associated with the position.

We expect that the department head possesses the following qualifications:
-    Has a relevant academic education at the master's level
-    Possesses broad social professional knowledge about the child and youth sector in Greenland
-    Has management experience, including experience with project management
-    Can create an overview of many and complex tasks
-    Is good at facilitating dialogue and collaboration – both internally and externally
-    Is skilled at communicating in writing and verbally
-    Is independent and proactive
-    Is open, positive, and able to create trusting relationships
-    Has experience from a politically governed organization
-    Is ready to advise the political level at short notice
-    Has knowledge of Greenlandic societal conditions and culture
-    Can understand complex social professional cases, find solutions, and communicate this in a simple way

About the Department of Children, Youth, Justice and Gender Equality
In the Department of Children, Youth, and Families, we have about 24 employees distributed across 3 departments. The Management Secretariat, the Department for Cross-Cutting Projects and Monitoring, Justice and Gender Equality. In addition, the department has an underlying unit, the Social Agency, and ongoing collaboration with the independent rights institutions MIO.

Salary and employment conditions
The position is currently salary-fixed corresponding to 38. The salary with fixed salary components and own contribution to pension in LR 38 amounts to DKK 64,048 monthly and DKK 768,576 annually as of April 1, 2026.

The working hours are initially 40 hours weekly. For the position, there is no maximum service time set, and the provisions regarding the payment of compensation for overtime and lost days off do not apply.

Salary and employment conditions, including the right to travel for relocation and moving expenses, in accordance with the applicable collective agreement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization at the time of appointment.

Housing
No staff housing is provided for the position. If an applicant already has staff housing through employment in the Self-Government, the right to assigned staff housing is retained. The staff housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon termination of the employment relationship.
