The Municipality of Sermersooq is seeking two skilled teachers for Atuarfik Tuiisaq in Paamiut. The position involves teaching at the middle and senior levels, as well as participating in pedagogical meetings. The school focuses on developing students' active participation and creativity through project-based learning.

The Municipality of Sermersooq is looking for two skilled teachers for Atuarfik Tuiisaq Paamiut, starting from October 1, 2026


The school's vision and goals include creating healthy students with self-esteem, curiosity, greater willpower, and the courage to have big visions.


Atuarfik Tuiisaq is a public school located in Paamiut with approximately 160 students ranging from the youngest to the oldest grade levels. The school has engaged and professionally skilled teachers as well as other educational staff. The school is an important gathering point in the town and places a high value on well-being, professionalism, and good collaboration with parents and the local community.


Development focus:

Atuarfik Tuiisaq is currently in the implementation phase of Project-Based Learning (PBL) in close collaboration with the administration. The school is actively working to develop teaching that better supports students' active participation, interdisciplinary work, creativity, and real-world learning. The school principal will play a central role in leading, supporting, and anchoring this pedagogical development process in close interaction with staff and administration.


Atuarfik Tuiisaq has been a single-track school for the past few years with a total of 11 classes from 1st to 10th grade and 1 special class. The school is divided into 3 levels: the youngest level 1st-3rd grades, the middle level 4th-7th grades, and the oldest level 8th-10th grades. The number of students fluctuates between 155-170 during a school year. The school's staff consists of 18 teachers, a school principal, a vice principal, an office manager, a janitor, and a janitor's assistant as well as cleaning staff.


Atuarfik Tuiisaq is currently undergoing a major renovation, so patience will be a virtue.


Job content:

We are looking for a qualified teacher to join the teaching team and take on the tasks associated with a teacher team.

·Preparation and teaching in the middle and oldest grades

·Follow-up on each student's teaching plan

·Evaluation of each student with the teaching team several times a year

·Participate in pedagogical meetings

·Participate in weekly teacher meetings

·Participate in common activities


The tasks are solved in close collaboration with the teaching team and the department leader.

Criminal and Child Certificate:

The position is subject to the law requiring the collection of criminal and child certificates. According to the law, employment can only begin once the municipality has received satisfactory criminal and child certificates. We must therefore point out that the start date can only be agreed upon once the municipality has received the child certificate from the National Police and the criminal certificate from the Police.


The child certificate is obtained by the municipality with the consent of the individual, while the criminal certificate is obtained by the individual from the Police.


Salary and employment conditions:

Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the applicable collective agreement between the Government of Greenland, according to the agreement/collective agreement in effect at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.


Employment will be subject to a 3-month probation period.


Housing:

Housing can be provided for the position, for which a deposit and rent, utilities, etc. are paid according to the applicable rules for rent payment in the properties of the Government of Greenland and the municipality in Greenland. If permanent staff housing cannot be made available immediately upon commencement, temporary staff housing will be offered to employees entitled to vacation housing, for which rent, utilities, etc. are paid according to the above. The start date is dependent on when a staff housing is available. A relocation travel and moving expenses are provided according to applicable rules.
