Avannaata municipality is seeking a Director for Finance and Business, the position is desired to be filled by October 1, 2026, or by further agreement.
The place of employment is the Head Office in Ilulissat, where your immediate supervisor will be the Managing Director.
We are looking for a director who can lead the municipality's financial management while also contributing to business development and growth.
As a director, you become part of the municipality's top management and must ensure responsible finances, develop and create strong collaboration with businesses, citizens, politicians, and external partners.
The responsibilities and main tasks of the position:
- Responsible for the municipality's overall financial functions, including accounting, payroll, budgeting, and financing, and especially forward-looking financial analyses.
- Responsible for the municipality's insurance portfolio
- Responsible for the Business Department
- Contribution to the political system:
Prepare financial status and recommendations for budgets and budget revisions for the finance committee and municipal council.
Prepares analyses, impact assessments, and forecasting
Participant as an appointed member in economic committee and municipal council meetings.
- Contributions in a management context:
Responsible for particularly forward-looking economic analyses across disciplines and management of municipal finances.
Responsible for ensuring that the municipality's cash and accounting regulations are followed and continuously updated.
Development of management tools in the financial area, both for central and decentralized units.
To ensure that the municipal administrative systems meet the needs of the municipality.
To ensure that a continuous working capital is available in relation to the budget's needs, including managing collaboration at all levels.
Professional qualifications.
- Relevant higher education in the economic field
- In-depth knowledge of budgeting, accounting, financial management, and controlling
- Experience with risk management, financing, and strategic financial planning,
- Has knowledge and fairness for business development, tourism, and awareness of the needs of the business community.
- Good understanding of public administration
- Knowledge of relevant legislation in Greenland and Political service
Management qualifications
- Preferably several years of experience in personnel management and leadership for leaders,
- Ability to achieve results through collaboration across the organization,
- Experience with management, boards, and political committees is an advantage,
- Good communication skills, both externally and internally,
- Collaboration at all levels,
- Would like to master Greenlandic, Danish, and English,
- Cultural and human understanding, including a focus on the special conditions that apply in a multilingual society,
- Knowledge of Greenlandic conditions, especially North Greenland, which has 21 smaller settlements and 4 towns, requires an understanding of the specific issues and a dispersed residential pattern.
Salary and employment conditions:
Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the collective agreement in force at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the negotiating organization.
A staff housing can be provided for the position, and travel for arrival and departure as well as moving expenses will be handled according to the applicable rules. Until a staff housing is available, the municipality will arrange for temporary accommodation in a furnished apartment.
