Department Head for MISI and Department for Support Persons

The Municipality of Sermersooq is seeking a development-oriented Department Head for MISI and the department for support persons for children and youth for the Administration for Children and School.

In the Municipality of Sermersooq, we have a clear ambition: We want to create a more coherent effort for children and youth, where their needs are the focal point – not our organizational division. Therefore, we are looking for a Department Head for MISI and the department for support persons for children and youth who can help develop both the advisory area and the overall organization across daycare, schools, and other professional areas.

A leadership role with real influence:

As Department Head for MISI and the department for support persons for children and youth, you will become a central strategic leader in the Administration for Children and School and report directly to the director.

You will be responsible for the professional and organizational development in MISI and the department for support persons for children and youth.

You will be an important player in the development of the entire administration. Together with the other department heads, you will help create an organization where children and families experience one cohesive municipality – not different departments. Currently, for example, we have initiated a restructuring of the approach to the effort in the support person area. The effort must be based on the child's needs where the child is, and not on where the money currently lies, or which department formally owns a grant, and that resources must be used earlier, more flexibly, and more professionally.

This means that you will have the opportunity to shape the development of future collaboration between advisory services, daycare, schools, prevention, support, and other efforts.

About the position:

The Administration for Children and School consists of the following departments: School, MISI & department for support persons for children and youth, Daycare, Leisure & Culture, Development, Health Promotion & Prevention, and the Staff.

MISI is a counseling center that offers pedagogical-psychological counseling to professionals working with children and youth aged 0-18 years. MISI advises on issues related to children's development, well-being, and learning. MISI Sermersooq works every day to ensure well-being, development, and learning for children and youth in the Municipality of Sermersooq. This requires a counseling unit that is clear in its role, strong in its professionalism, and sustainable in its organization.

The department for support persons for children and youth provides a social pedagogical effort for children and youth with significant physical, mental, intellectual, or sensory disabilities and/or where there are social challenges in the child's surroundings, typically in the home or family, and where there is also a need for special pedagogical support. The special pedagogical effort can also be directed towards the child or young person's family, daycare, school, and/or leisure offerings.

The position is full-time and is located in Nuuk.

Your most important tasks:

You must ensure both a well-functioning operation and be a driving force for development.

This includes, among other things, that you:

∙Lead and develop MISI and the department for support persons for children and youth with a focus on high professional quality and sustainable operation

∙Support the director in bridging the political leadership and the professional organization.

∙Translate strategies into concrete solutions that create value for children, youth, and families

∙Drive development and change processes across the organization

∙Strengthen collaboration between MISI, daycare, schools, the support person area, and other partners

∙Develop a culture characterized by interdisciplinarity, learning, and shared responsibility.

∙Economic planning and follow-up

Your profile

∙Has a relevant educational background as a teacher, educator, psychologist, or equivalent – preferably supplemented with further education or advanced training within the field, administration, or leadership

∙Has documented leadership experience, preferably from a politically governed organization

∙A strategic leader and able to translate political decisions into practice

∙Has a focus on employee well-being, competence development, and followership

∙Has experience and understanding of change management and organizational development

∙Has strong written and verbal communication skills

∙Is strong in creating cross-sector collaboration across departments and sectors

Criminal and Child Certificate:

The position is subject to the law on the obligation to obtain a criminal and child certificate. According to the law, employment can only begin when the municipality has received a satisfactory criminal and child certificate. We must therefore point out that the start date can only be agreed upon when the municipality has received the child certificate from the National Police as well as the criminal certificate from the Police.

The child certificate is obtained by the municipality with the consent of the individual, while the criminal certificate is obtained by the individual from the Police.

Salary and employment conditions:

Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the applicable collective agreement between the Greenland Self-Government, according to the agreement/collective agreement applicable at the time of commencement between the Greenland Self-Government and the relevant negotiating organization.

Employment will be subject to a 3-month probation period.
