Department of Geology is looking for one or two AC consultants or special consultants for the Landslide Group

Are you interested in working with landslide monitoring, mapping, and risk analysis? Then you might be the person we need for the monitoring effort in the Department of Geology.

About the position

The Landslide Group is dedicated to increasing societal safety against landslides and related events such as tsunami surges. You will be part of a smaller team in a rapidly developing area. We are looking for a colleague with relevant skills to strengthen our team and contribute to landslide monitoring. A fair amount of travel and fieldwork is expected throughout the year.

Your tasks will include:

• Daily monitoring of landslide areas with the help of a monitoring system

• Monthly publication of situation assessments

• Regional screening for potential unstable rock masses

• Participate in the development and implementation of monitoring strategies and risk analyses in collaboration with relevant authorities, local communities, and international partners

• Update and further develop the website

• Plan and conduct fieldwork, including measurements with drones and seismic equipment

• Quality assurance, analysis, organization, and dissemination of collected field data

• Advise decision-makers

• Conduct information campaigns and build capacity for a nationwide integrated risk management for landslide hazards

• Collaborate with research environments to develop monitoring efforts tailored to Greenlandic conditions

Your qualifications

You do not need to meet all the points below, but we expect that you can see yourself in most of them:

• Relevant professional education, for example geologist, geographer, remote sensing specialist, engineer, or similar.

• Familiarity with geographic information systems (GIS) and/or programming

• Preferably have experience with risk management and natural hazards

• Have good communication skills in Greenlandic, Danish, and English

Personal competencies

• You are engaged and good at collaborating

• You work independently and meet deadlines

• You have knowledge of Greenlandic societal conditions

• Have experience or desire to conduct fieldwork in remote regions

We are about 40 employees in the Department of Business and Mineral Resources. The position is organizationally located in the Department of Geology, which consists of 1 department head and 11 geoscientific employees.

The Department of Geology is the primary geoscientific advisor in the mineral sector for Naalakkersuisut.

Salary and employment conditions
Salary and employment conditions, including the right to relocation and departure travel and moving expenses, in accordance with the applicable agreement/collective agreement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization at the time of appointment.

Working hours are generally 40 hours per week.
Housing
No staff housing is provided for the position. If an applicant already has staff housing through employment in the Self-Government, the right to assigned staff housing is retained. The staff housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon termination of the employment relationship.
