Municipality of Qeqertalik is seeking a head for Culture, Leisure and Health. The position is based in Aasiaat and covers the municipality's 4 towns and 8 settlements. You will be responsible for sports, culture, leisure, health, and prevention. We are looking for a leader with experience from a politically governed organization who can navigate between professional development, operations, finance, and political service.

Head of Culture, Leisure, and Health

A central management position in Municipality Qeqertalik

Would you like to lead the development of culture, leisure, and health in Municipality Qeqertalik?

We are looking for a head of department for Culture, Leisure, and Health reporting to the administration manager Timi Tarni. The position is based in Aasiaat and covers the municipality's 4 towns and 8 settlements. You will have the overall professional and managerial responsibility for sports, culture, leisure, health, and prevention. Here you will have both a strategic leadership role and a daily life close to nature, community, and responsibility.

Central leadership role

Reference to the head of administration for Timi Tarni and close collaboration with the political level.

Management responsibility

Professional responsibility for leaders, employees, and relevant partners.

Professional area: Sports, culture, leisure, health, and prevention.

Geography

Responsibility across the municipality's four towns and eight villages.

You will be responsible for that.

·overall management and development of the municipality's area for sports, culture, leisure, health, and prevention

responsibility for the development of sports, culture, and leisure offerings for children, young people, and adults

·development and coordination of preventive and health-promoting initiatives in collaboration with relevant stakeholders

·professional and personnel management of leaders and employees within the area

·financial management, budget follow-up, and prioritization of the area's resources

·development of collaboration with associations, volunteers, institutions, health actors, and other local stakeholders

·political servicing through qualified case presentations, proposals, and follow-up

We imagine that you

·either has a relevant higher education or in-depth practical experience in the field, and solid management experience in the same

·has experience from a politically governed organization, preferably municipal or public

can navigate safely between professional development, operations, finance, and political service

can lead through other leaders and create followership in an organization under development

·works in a structured manner and has an eye for both the whole and the local reality across cities and villages

It is an advantage if you can communicate in Greenlandic and Danish, and preferably also in English.

A working life with great experiences around it

In Greenland, nature is a part of everyday life. When the workday ends, leisure time can include dog sledding, sailing, snowmobiling, fishing, hiking, northern lights, and midnight sun.

The practical

The position reports to the head of administration, Timi Tarni, and is part of the management team.

Salary placement as department head 3 according to the chief agreement between the Government of Greenland and the municipalities.

Start date September 1, 2026, or by agreement.

This is a managerial position with both responsibility, vision, and experiences.

Criminal record:

This position is subject to the law requiring the collection of a criminal record. Employment can only begin once the municipality has received the necessary criminal record from the Police.

Housing:

A staff housing can be provided for the position, for which a deposit and rent, utilities, etc. will be paid according to the current rules for rent payment in the Greenland Self-Government and the municipality's properties in Greenland. If permanent staff housing cannot be made available immediately upon commencement, employees entitled to temporary housing will be offered a temporary accommodation according to applicable rules. A staff housing must be vacated upon termination of the employment relationship.
