Director of the Social Agency

The Department for Children, Youth, Justice, and Equality seeks a strategic leadership profile to lead the Social Agency. You will develop and anchor social and preventive initiatives in close dialogue with employees and partners. Responsibilities include bridging policy and operations and ensuring communication between municipalities and the Social Agency.

Director in the Social Agency

The Department for Children, Youth, Justice, and Gender Equality is seeking a strategic leadership profile to head a strong organization and to lead, develop, and anchor social and preventive initiatives in close dialogue with the agency's employees as well as other partners for the benefit of the citizens of Greenland.

You must be a leader with a strong analytical and strategic profile. You should be able to build and maintain solid collaborative relationships with partners, stakeholders, and the relevant sector, and you should possess a good understanding of working in a politically governed organization.

Areas of responsibility

 

  • The director has the responsibility, in collaboration with the remaining management team, to lead the Social Agency as an organization and to realize and ensure that the relevance of the Social Agency is balanced with the needs and resources in the social, health-promoting, and preventive areas. The primary tasks will therefore be to develop and strengthen municipal cooperation within the social and preventive areas. Additionally, the director must ensure a close dialogue with the municipalities so that their work is supported and balanced as effectively as possible.
  • The director has the responsibility to bridge the gap between politics and operations. It is the director's duty, in collaboration with the management team, to contribute to ensuring that legislation and political goals are implemented and create results for citizens and society - and that established goals and results are achieved within the given financial framework.
  • Preparation and follow-up on activity, service, and quality goals as well as action plans within the nationwide treatment offers, residential institutions and overnight services, and crisis centers.
  • The director must ensure that the Social Authority develops, communicates, monitors, and evaluates methods and practices so that they continuously meet the needs present in society. Additionally, the director must ensure and strengthen the important communication between the municipalities and the Social Authority, as well as the Department. The Department for Children, Youth, and Families is seeking a new director to start on October 1, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter. As the Director, you will be the top leader in the Social Authority, which is an organizational unit under the Department for Children, Youth, Justice, and Gender Equality. About you
  • You have an in-depth knowledge of social conditions in Greenland and an in-depth understanding of the health challenges related to health promotion and prevention. You have a relevant academic educational background. You have experience in management and decision-making.

You have in-depth knowledge of Greenlandic language, culture, and societal conditions.

The Social Agency is part of the Department of Children, Youth, Justice, and Gender Equality and has the following 5 departments: Paarisa, the Day and Referral Department, the Department for Advice to Caseworkers, the Economics Department, and the Secretariat. The departments work closely together, and it is a workplace that offers many professional challenges. The main task of the Social Agency is that it is a workplace with an exciting, relevant, and busy everyday life, where the level of ambition is high. The Social Agency is involved in implementing politically adopted strategies regarding health promotion and prevention. We ensure that the strategic objectives translate into concrete managerial initiatives in daily operations. We take pride in delivering professional task solutions in line with political objectives and for the benefit of citizens. One of the agency's central focus areas is collaboration with municipalities. The Social Agency works to strengthen collaboration with municipalities in carrying out health-promoting, preventive, developmental, and social advisory tasks. Another focus area of the Social Agency is to strengthen development in the area of residential institutions while improving conditions for citizens with disabilities. The Social Agency is part of the Department of Children, Youth, Justice, and Gender Equality. The head of the agency reports directly to the permanent secretary. Employment Conditions The position is filled on a fixed-term basis for 3 years. The position is currently salaried at level 39. The salary with fixed salary components, own contribution to pension, and fixed-term supplement in LR 39 amounts to DKK 89,934 monthly and DKK 1,079,208 annually as of April 1, 2026. Initially, employment will be on collective agreement terms, where applicants who are already civil servants under the civil servant laws for the public Greenland may be employed on civil servant terms.
