Assistant Professor or Lecturer with Department Head Function

The Department of Nursing at Ilisimatusarfik is seeking an assistant professor or lecturer in nursing or health sciences with a department head function. The position is fixed-term for 3 years with the possibility of extension. You will be responsible for both academic leadership tasks and specific teaching duties in the bachelor's program and continuing education.

The Department of Nursing at Ilisimatusarfik is seeking an assistant professor or lecturer in nursing or health sciences with departmental leadership responsibilities. The position is temporary for 3 years with the possibility of extension.

The working hours are 40 hours per week. The position is available for occupancy on April 1, 2026, or by further agreement.

The department falls under the Institute for Health and Nature, which includes an additional department:

  • Department of SILA Biology Education

As an assistant professor or lecturer with a department head function, you will play a central role in the academic, pedagogical, and organizational development of the nursing education program. You will be responsible for both academic leadership tasks and specific teaching assignments in the bachelor's program and continuing education, including planning, implementation, and evaluation of teaching as well as guidance of students.

You actively contribute to the quality assurance and further development of research and development-based teaching and to strengthening the professional and pedagogical environment in the department. In collaboration with employees and external partners, you help ensure that the educational programs continue to evolve in line with the needs of society, the healthcare system, and the profession.

The program has approximately 45 enrolled students, and the department has PhD students, two full-time employees, and one part-time professor, as well as a number of external guest lecturers, adjunct lecturers, and several affiliated researchers. The incoming department head will be involved in further developing the department by recruiting more permanent teaching staff and researchers in collaboration with the institute leader.

At the department, teaching can take place in Greenlandic, Danish, and English. Emphasis is also placed on knowledge of Greenlandic society and culture. A prerequisite for employment is that one resides in Nuuk during the employment period.

Qualification requirements

  • Relevant university education in nursing or health sciences at the PhD level.
  • Research, teaching, and communication qualifications equivalent to assistant professor or associate professor level.
  • Experience in teaching and/or conveying knowledge in nursing science or health science.
  • Knowledge of education and research within the institute's core subjects nationally and internationally.
  • Good analytical skills and a sense of organization
  • Flexibility and a desire to work in a small but ambitious university environment
  • Language skills in Greenlandic, Danish, and English are a great advantage, as is knowledge of Greenlandic conditions and an international perspective.
  • It will be an advantage to have Greenlandic authorization as a nurse.
  • Professional leadership and daily operations of the department, including scheduling, subject coordination,
  • subject coordination, planning of internship programs, and exams, collaboration with guest lecturers and coordinating their teaching, following up on evaluations of the teaching, quality assurance of teaching and exam assignments, further development of the study and the department, collaboration with the stakeholder panel.
  • Conduct student development conversations, support and advise students.
  • Development and quality assurance of study programs.
  • Teaching in nursing and health-related subjects that are relevant to your professional profile and interests.
  • Guidance and examination of students.
  • Research as well as publication and scientific communication within the department's areas of expertise. Emphasis is placed on ensuring that your research and communication are oriented towards Greenland and the Arctic.

Ilisimatusarfik, Greenland's University, was established in 1987 and currently offers 13 different programs, including some part-time programs at both diploma and master's levels. Ilisimatusarfik is an Arctic university that creates knowledge and innovation in a rapidly developing region. The board is the university's highest management body. Daily management is handled by the rector and the university director. The four institutes are led by an institute head, who is advised by an institute council.

The Shared Administration serves the entire university. It is led by the university director. The Shared Administration has departments in Ilimmarfik and Ilinniarfissuaq. The departments work closely with the academic units, but also collaborate with each other. The tasks of the Shared Administration are: student administration, personnel administration, servicing the board and the Academic Council, as well as other service functions for the university's staff and students. The Shared Administration is also responsible for the building operations of Ilimmarfik.

Salary and employment conditions

Salary and employment conditions, including the right to relocation and moving expenses, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

Housing

No staff housing is provided for the position. If an applicant already has staff housing through employment in the Self-Government, the right to the assigned staff housing is retained. The staff housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon termination of the employment relationship.

3 months probation period

In this position, there is a 3-month probation period.
