GUX Nuuk is seeking dedicated high school teachers for full-time positions starting no later than August 1, 2026. We prefer candidates with two or more subjects, especially in visual arts, biology, Danish, English, physics, Greenlandic, sports, chemistry, mathematics, music, social studies, and science. We offer a dynamic teaching environment in Greenland's largest high school.
SEARCH THIS POSITION At GUX Nuuk, there are full-time positions available to start no later than August 1, 2026, or by agreement. The positions are permanent but can in some cases be agreed upon as temporary. Candidates with two or more subjects are preferred, and the following subjects are of particular interest (preferably in combination with other subjects in the gymnasium's subject range): Visual Arts, Biology, Danish, English, Physics, Greenlandic, Physical Education, Chemistry, Mathematics, Music, Social Studies, and Science.
GUX Nuuk is Greenland's largest high school and has about 500 students in 7 tracks across three grades for the new school year, taught by about 55 teachers. The school also employs about 15 PAM workers. Our students have very different academic and social conditions, but share a common dream of graduating.
The high school is associated with two colleges, and the students primarily come from the Sermersooq municipality, which stretches from Tasiilaq in the east to Paamiut in the southwest.
We work at the high school with second language pedagogy, culture-based teaching, restructured literacy, and educational time, placing students at the center of the school's activities.
We are looking for dedicated teachers who are adaptable and can maintain calm and perspective in everyday life.
We expect:
-
That you are a candidate or have an education at an equivalent level.
-
That you are prepared to actively participate in pedagogical and educational development work.
-
That you are flexible and prepared for close collaboration and open dialogue with colleagues and management, where we focus on taking concrete action on daily challenges.
-
That you have a professional and appreciative approach to your fellow human beings, whether they are students or colleagues.
-
That you are committed to making your teaching student-active, varied, and inclusive.
-
That you can take on a clear classroom leadership.
-
It will be an advantage to have a teaching qualification and teaching experience, but it is not a requirement.
-
A high school in the Arctic capital, where nature and urban life are at the center.
-
A teaching environment where daily life with the students is characterized by relationship building, inclusiveness, and commitment.
-
A high school in ongoing professional development and with a strong collegial community.
-
A workplace where there is easy access to advice, support, and guidance from colleagues and management.
-
Opportunity to take a pedagogical course with guidance from experienced course leaders and supervisors.
-
We are conducting onboarding programs at the beginning of August for all newly hired colleagues.
Salary and employment conditions
Salary and employment conditions, including the right to travel for joining and leaving as well as relocation of personal belongings, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.
Housing
At this time, it is uncertain whether housing can be provided for all positions. There will likely only be a few accommodations, and one should expect that there will be temporary housing, including in smaller co-housing arrangements or hotel apartments. Candidates who have the option for their own accommodation are kindly requested to inform about it during a potential job interview.
If staff housing is provided for the position, the following applies: an unfurnished staff apartment is allocated according to the rules in force at any given time. Housing cannot be allocated to individuals who already have a staff apartment or another property owned by the municipality or the Government of Greenland. Rent and deposit are paid according to the rules in force for the allocated housing. The staff apartment is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon termination of the employment relationship.
Rent and housing standards may vary depending on the age of the property, ownership conditions, etc. There may be a waiting period for the allocation of permanent staff housing, which is why temporary accommodation may occur, including in smaller co-housing communities or hotel apartments, for which taxation applies. It is not possible to keep larger pets, such as dogs or cats, in staff or temporary housing.
Procedure
Further information can be obtained from the education manager Maureen Hendrikx at phone: +299 256102 or the principal Hanne Larsen at phone: +299 363396.

Send your application along with your CV and exam papers through the portal by Monday, May 25, 2026.
Submit your application, CV, educational and course certificates, as well as other relevant documents by clicking "Send application."
