Social Worker

SEARCH THIS POSITION Do you enjoy working with young people, and do you want to help create a good environment for our college students so that they have the best possible conditions to complete their upper secondary education? Then you might be the social worker we are looking for.

At Qeqqani Ilinniarnertunngorniarfik/Midtgrønlands gymnasiale uddannelse in Nuuk, there are 1-2 full-time positions available as a social worker at the gymnasium's Røde Kollegie as of May 1, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter.

GUX Nuuk is Greenland's largest high school and has about 500 students in 7 tracks for the three grades, taught by about 55 teachers. The school also employs about 15 PAM workers. Our students have very different academic and social conditions, but share a common dream of graduating.

At GUX Nuuk, there is a dormitory: the Red Dormitory. The dormitory consists of two buildings, where about 90 students live in 1- and 2-person rooms. The students come from all over Greenland and are aged approximately 15 to 25 years.

As our new social worker, you will be responsible for various care, practical, and social tasks for our college students, including conducting well-being conversations and monitoring students' attendance. It is very important to us that we can create a good study and social environment for our students at the college.

This is a full-time position of 40 hours per week, distributed over weekdays and weekends. There will therefore be both weekend and evening work, as a large part of the work tasks take place after school hours.

You will be part of a team of 2 other social workers who work closely with the school's management, student coaches, advisors, and a psychotherapist. The group is involved in a collaborative effort focused on the students who need special support in completing their high school education.

We expect:

• That you have a social work education, such as a social worker or social pedagogue.
• That you are prepared to be motivating, activating, inclusive, and able to take on authority in your work with the college students.
• That you are prepared for the position to involve varying working hours and are generally flexible.
• That you are committed to close collaboration with other employees with functions at the dormitory and management, where we focus on taking concrete action on the daily challenges.
• That you have a respectful approach to your fellow human beings, whether they are students or colleagues.
• That you can create strong relationships and trust with young people.
• It will be a clear advantage to be able to speak Greenlandic.

Salary and employment conditions, including the right to travel for joining and leaving, as well as relocation of personal belongings, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

There is a 3-month trial period.

Housing

No staff housing is allocated for the position. If an applicant already has staff housing through employment in the Self-Government, the right to the allocated staff housing is retained. The staff housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon the termination of the employment relationship.
