Tasiilami Alivarpi is seeking a teacher or educator as a special consultant for The Polar Academy Greenland. You will be a key person in the school's commitment to a project that enhances youth well-being and skills. You will work closely with students, families, and colleagues in a unique program that combines physical training, community, and Arctic pedagogy.
SEARCH THIS POSITION Tasiilami Alivarpi is looking for a teacher or educator as a special consultant who will make a difference for young people in Tasiilaq. You will be a central key person in the school's commitment to the establishment and implementation of The Polar Academy Greenland, a new development and education project for young people and their families, which will start as a pilot project in the school years 2026/2027 and 2027/2028.
The project is based on documented experiences from The Polar Academy in Scotland and is adapted to the specific opportunities and challenges in Tasiilaq. The aim is to strengthen young people's mental, social, and physical well-being, and to provide them with skills, courage, and determination regarding education, community, and the future.
About the position:
You will be the school's main coordinator in The Polar Academy Greenland project and a central contact for the participating students and families.
You are part of:
A local team together with two colleagues at Tasiilami Alivarpi
A cross-functional team with Igdlo and the Mountain Leader Team (Youth Culture House), We Collaborate in Tasiilaq, the leisure and culture department in Tasiilaq.
An international collaboration with the Scottish NGO The Polar Academy, which contributes to training, mentoring, and professional expertise.
You will be part of realizing an ambitious and unique program that combines physical training, community, nature-based learning, family involvement, and Arctic pedagogy.
Your primary work tasks:
You will be the daily driving force from the school in the program and will work closely with both the students, their families, and the school's staff.
Your tasks will include:
·Ongoing program activities
Participate in and co-facilitate two weekly intensive physical training sessions ("insanity training").
·Hold or support weekly communal meals for students and families
Participate in training in outdoor skills, including safety, cooperation, and understanding of nature.
Contribute to planning and conducting 2–3 training expeditions each year on Ammassalik Island.
·Participate once a year in the final expedition in the Scottish Highlands together with the youth
·Co-organize alumni activities for students and families who have completed the program.
Relation and development:
Create stable, safe, and respectful relationships with students and their families.
Support the students in holding lectures and communication activities.
Strengthen families' engagement and community through dialogue, activities, and support.
·Actively contribute to the development of Arctic Pedagogy in collaboration with selected colleagues from the school's teaching staff.
Collaboration and coordination:
·Be the school's primary coordinator and main contact person for the project's partners.
·Collaboration closely with The Polar Academy (Scotland) on the school's academic methods and quality assurance.
·Contribute continuously to the development and adaptation of the project's methods, structure, and annual cycle.
Additionally, participate in the school's teaching, e.g. physical education or subjects depending on your profile.

·Has a deep interest in and experience with outdoor life – even in harsh weather.
·Thrives in both physically demanding tasks and processes with young people in vulnerable life situations
Can create trust, structure, and security in the development processes of young people and families.
Is mentally and physically resilient and motivated by making a real difference.
·Will learn East Greenlandic if you do not already speak the language.
It is an advantage if you:
Has experience with nature pedagogy, outdoor life, expeditions, or sports.
·Has worked with young people facing social or mental challenges
·Has knowledge of Greenlandic societal conditions
·Want to work on the development of new educational methods (Arctic Pedagogy)

Evening and weekend work must be expected during project periods.
Travel activity to Scotland occurs.
Criminal and Child Certificate:
The position is covered by the law on the obligation to obtain criminal and child certificates. According to the law, employment can only begin once the municipality has received satisfactory criminal and child certificates. We must therefore point out that the start date can only be agreed upon once the municipality has received the child certificate from the National Police as well as the criminal record from the Police.
The child certificate is obtained by the municipality with the consent of the individual, while the criminal record is obtained by the individual from the police.
Salary and employment conditions:
Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the applicable agreement between the Government of Greenland, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of appointment between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.
The employment will be subject to a 3-month probation period.
Housing:
A staff housing can be provided for the position, for which a deposit and rent, utilities, etc. will be paid according to the applicable rules for rent payment in the Greenland Self-Government and the municipality's properties in Greenland. If permanent staff housing cannot be made available immediately upon commencement, employees entitled to temporary housing will be offered a temporary rental housing, for which rent, utilities, etc. will be paid in accordance with the above. The start date depends on when a staff housing is available. Relocation travel and moving of personal belongings are provided in accordance with applicable regulations.
