SEARCH THIS POSITION Are you passionate about helping students? Do you want to promote a good student life at Ilisimatusarfik? And do you value good colleagues, a varied everyday life, the opportunity to make a difference, and to leave your own mark - then we have just the position for you.

We are looking for a student advisor for the Study Service Ilisimatusarfik as soon as possible. The working hours are 40 hours a week.

About Study Service:

We are in the Study Service, 12 employees serving approximately 600 active students across 12 programs.

The university's administration, of which Study Service is a part, plays a very important role in the organization and helps support the students, teachers, colleagues, citizens, and partners. It is important that you see your role in relation to a group of different people, but keep in mind that first and foremost we are here for our students - and we are here when they need help.

About the position

The primary task of the study advisor is to provide personal guidance to students at Ilisimatusarfik in collaboration with the department heads and Study Services. Since the study advisor communicates with all students who reach out, it is a great advantage to speak three languages because Ilisimatusarfik is an international educational institution, with students coming from abroad as well. However, the majority of students speak Greenlandic, so it is important for the study advisor to be proficient in the Greenlandic language, as some students only speak Danish and English, which requires the study advisor to also be able to communicate in Danish and English.

The study advisor is also part of the team at Student Services, and ad hoc tasks should be addressed as needed.

Study guidance includes:

  • Personal, group, and collective guidance of students
  • Career guidance for students
  • Information and guidance on education for applicants and guidance centers
  • Collaboration with access-granting education, the business community, and other stakeholders
  • Presentations and workshops for students on exam anxiety, reading techniques, etc.
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration between departments to achieve a high completion rate and increase student well-being at Ilisimatusarfik.
  • Ad hoc tasks as needed
  • Good opportunities for professional development through mentoring, supervision, and courses.
  • A workplace with the opportunity to make a significant difference for students at Ilisimatusarfik.
  • A good work environment with employee well-being as a priority.
  • A fantastic cohesive team with skilled and dedicated colleagues.
  • Supervision of external partner
  • Has relevant education, e.g. social worker or similar supplemented with VGU and preferably with an advanced course to VGU.
  • Has experience working with students, and experience from a similar position is an advantage.
  • Masters Greenlandic at a native level as well as Danish and English in writing and speech, as personal and written guidance can be provided in one of the three languages.
  • Has good knowledge of Greenlandic society, culture, and education system.
  • Is committed to helping young and adult students and is motivated by making a positive difference.
  • Is a initiator with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
  • Has good collaboration and communication skills and thrives in interdisciplinary collaborations.
  • Understands the importance of collaboration across all departments at Ilisimatusarfik.
  • Is socially inclined and possesses strong relational skills.
  • Has a positive approach to tasks and works independently and responsibly.
  • Can relate to relevant legislation, handle case processing, and make qualified decisions.

In the job, there are many conversations – also difficult conversations about students' challenges in their studies, but also about personal struggles that can have negative consequences for their education. You are often the first person the student meets and talks to in a difficult situation. Therefore, you need to be resilient and committed, but also conflict-resolving and, not least, a role model that students can confidently talk to.

We understand that guidance cannot always be put into schedules. This means that you need to be able to thrive in a daily routine with constant interruptions and have many balls in the air.
