Your areas of responsibility
As chief of staff, you will, together with the director, the head of enforcement and security, the head of capacity and resources, and the head of resocialization, form the top management of the Prison and Probation Service in Greenland, where the organization's strategic initiatives are decided.
You will have the overall responsibility for the legal processing of client cases as well as the overall responsibility for advising the institutions on legal matters. This work is crucial for, among other things, ensuring that the serving of sentences, etc., takes place with due regard to the significant considerations of inmates' rights and obligations, law enforcement considerations, etc.
You will have the professional and managerial responsibility for HR, which, in addition to close collaboration with the professional organizations, will also involve recruiting correctional officer trainees in cooperation with the prison management, collaborating with the Danish Prison Service on the training of correctional officers, continuing education initiatives, etc., and working with other national and self-governing authorities in Greenland on cross-cutting initiatives.
Finally, you will have the overall responsibility for the Prison and Probation Service in Greenland's overall effort to get the inmates employed so they can give back to the community they have offended against. The effort is led by an employment leader who will report to you.
You will have managerial responsibility for approximately 8 employees, including several lawyers, an employment manager, and an HR consultant, and you will act as the deputy for the director of the Greenland Prison Service during visits or meetings at a political or high central administrative level, as well as in contact with the press.
You will work closely with, among others, the Greenland Police and the State Prosecutor in Copenhagen on legal decisions, coordination across the criminal case chain, and certain HR issues. You will also collaborate with the Arctic Command regarding the role of the Correctional Service in Greenland in the Arctic Basic Education. In the area of employment, you will collaborate with, among others, the municipalities and employers.
You will also need to collaborate with the heads of staff in the Western and Eastern Prison Districts, as well as the staff at the Danish Prison and Probation Service, to support cohesion across the national authority.
About you
Your educational background can, for example, be a Master's degree in Law, a Master's degree in Political Science, or a Master's degree in Public Administration. You should have well-developed political acumen, the ability to set frameworks and direction for staff work, be strong in communication, execution, management support, organizational development, change processes, and establish and implement new tasks and focus areas. Management and governance experience, preferably from a public enterprise, will be a clear advantage, as will experiences from employment in Greenland.
You are expected to have personal and managerial impact, a calm approach even when there are difficult agendas, excellent collaboration skills, and a good eye for well-functioning workflows and collaboration procedures. You should have good communication skills, an overview of and the ability to handle complex issues, a positive attitude, and a passion for working on the tasks entrusted to the Greenland Prison Service. Finally, you should have the desire and ability to work in a multicultural workplace.
In addition, we expect you to be eager to work in an informal environment where helpfulness and kindness are core values, where many decisions are made, and where a well-functioning collaboration with both our own organization, the Ministry of Justice, the Government of Greenland, and the other national authorities is very important.
Salary and employment conditions
You will be employed on an individual contract with terms corresponding to the framework agreement on the contractual employment of managers in the state and with placement corresponding to salary group 1. If you are already employed as a civil servant, you can retain your position as a civil servant. In addition, allowances will be agreed upon depending on experience and qualifications.
The position is a fixed-term employment for 5 years initially, and the position is desired to be filled as soon as possible.
The area of employment is Denmark's prisons.
The average weekly working time is 40 hours per week.
The workplace is the Danish Prison and Probation Service in Greenland, Headquarters, Qullilerfik 2, 5th floor, 3900 Nuuk.
Unfurnished housing can be provided according to the applicable rules at any time. Travel expenses for arrival and departure, as well as moving costs for household goods, are provided according to the applicable rules at any time.
Security clearance is a prerequisite for employment, just as you must be able to

About the Criminal Justice System in Greenland
The Correctional Service in Greenland employs approximately 150 permanent staff members, of which about 16 are employed at the Head Office in Nuuk. The Head Office is responsible for the central management of enforcement, security, rehabilitation, finance, HR, and administrative tasks related to the operation and development of the Correctional Service's six institutions and supervision offices located in Ilulissat, Aasiaat, Sisimiut, Nuuk, Qaqortoq, and Tasiilaq.
