AC Executive

An AC Executive with an interest in the management of living resources is sought for the Department of Fisheries, Hunting, Agriculture, and Self-Sufficiency. Responsible for managing both quota and non-quota catch species, focusing on sustainable development and knowledge building. Tasks include project management, decision-making proposals, and quality assurance.

SEARCH THIS POSITION 1 AC officer with an interest in the management of living resources is sought for the Hunting and Fishing Department in the Ministry of Fisheries, Hunting, Agriculture, and Self-Sufficiency.

Start date: Commencement from August 15, 2026, or as soon as agreed.

Are you passionate about Arctic management of land and marine mammals as well as birds? And are you interested in being responsible for the management of both quota and non-quota catch species? The management of living resources is a unique field and one of the most important for self-sufficiency in Greenland. Many considerations must be balanced in the management of land and marine mammals as well as birds, and the management must therefore ensure a balance and interaction between the utilization of living resources, sustainable development, and knowledge building.

Tasks

The AC officer will be part of the Hunting and Fishing Department in the Ministry of Fisheries, Hunting, Agriculture, and Self-Sufficiency. The primary area of responsibility will be the management of quota and non-quota species:

Development of the management of quota and non-quota species as well as contributions to the preparation and maintenance of management plans in close collaboration with relevant municipalities and other employees in the department, including ensuring progress on management measures and initiating and implementing the focus areas for the coming year.

Completion of the ongoing update of regulations on the protection and capture of quota and non-quota species.

In addition to case processing of quota and non-quota species, the tasks will depend on the political agenda, the content of the coalition agreement, and they will cover a wide range of both management and operational tasks as well as development projects, including information initiatives, increased and better utilization of landed catches:

  • Responsibility for and project management of relevant development projects, including coordination of capture projects that are relevant to your main tasks.
  • Preparation of decision proposals, recommendations, and notes.
  • Contribute to the implementation of political priorities and goals.
  • Response to consultations within the department's area of responsibility.
  • General administration of the hunting and trapping law and associated regulations that are relevant to your main tasks.
  • Participate in quality assurance of material from the department to be presented to the permanent secretary and Naalakkersuisut.

Qualifications

You are passionate about the management of living resources, independent and flexible with a talent for immersing yourself in new things, maintaining structure, and keeping an overview. You are self-assured, motivated by challenges, conscientious, loyal, and have a positive approach. It is important that you are proactive and take pride in following tasks through to completion and functioning as the best possible support for management. Since quality assurance of written work and contact with, among others, municipalities are important aspects of the tasks, it is required that you are diplomatic, service-minded, and have good formulation and communication skills.

  • has a higher academic education
  • has a flair for data processing and databases,
  • has an understanding of and experience with political decision-making processes, preferably from a similar position, or has completed a thesis on the subject.
  • like to write notes, presentations, press releases, and similar – often within tight deadlines

  • has good language skills – preferably Greenlandic, Danish, and English
  • can work independently and take initiative on their own
  • demonstrates a strong sense of responsibility for task resolution

The department consists of approximately 45 employees, distributed across 6 divisions: The Division for Administration, Finance and Personnel, Agriculture and Self-Sufficiency, The Division for Fisheries and ESU, The Division for Hunting and Game, Division for Legal and Economic Planning. The department also includes the Veterinary and Food Authority in Greenland (VFMG). Additionally, Greenland's Fisheries and Hunting Control (GFJK) is a subordinate unit to the department with regional offices on the coast.

Salary and employment conditions, including the right to relocation travel and moving of personal belongings, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement applicable at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.
