The Municipality of Sermersooq is seeking skilled and dedicated teachers for the school in Tasiilaq.

East Greenland is one of the most beautiful places in the world with untouched and diverse Arctic nature. East Greenland lies between the great ice of the sea and the enormous inland ice. Both provide year-round the most beautiful scenarios of icebergs in all possible shades from white to turquoise blue.

Tasiilami Alivarpi is a municipal school with approximately 319 students distributed across 25 classes. There are 57 teachers employed at the school, divided into the youngest, middle, and oldest grades.

Tasiilaq is the largest urban community on Greenland's east coast with about 1900 inhabitants. The school is the largest cultural institution in East Greenland.

The content of the positions:

We are looking for qualified teachers and preschool teachers to join the school's teaching team for all of the school's general subjects. We particularly focus on Greenlandic, special education in special classes, and preferably advisory experience, being a contact teacher in our new initiative called "Naasunnguaq" with a special focus on inclusion, IT skills preferably as a mentor, as well as natural sciences and mathematics.

Can see the value in interdisciplinary collaboration in the local community regarding development and problem-solving, which will also contribute to further developing the cooperation between schools and the preschool sector.

Is a teacher or educator trained

Being bilingual in Greenlandic and Danish is an advantage, but not a requirement.

Criminal and Child Certificate:

The position is covered by the law on the obligation to obtain a criminal record and child certificate. According to the law, employment can only begin once the municipality has received a satisfactory criminal record and child certificate. We would therefore like to point out that the start date can only be agreed upon once the municipality has received the child certificate from the National Police and the criminal record from the Police.

The child certificate is obtained by the municipality with the consent of the individual, while the criminal record is obtained by the individual from the police.

Salary and employment conditions:

Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the applicable collective agreement between the Government of Greenland, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of appointment between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

The employment will be subject to a 3-month probation period.

Fixed-term employment:

You will be employed on special fixed-term conditions according to the agreement of February 16, 2007, regarding employment on special fixed-term conditions. Additionally, a non-pensionable severance amount of DKK 18,000.00 is provided as an annual base amount per April 1, 1991, for every 12 months of employment. The amount is adjusted as special supplements and amounts to DKK 20,253.67 annually as of April 1, 2017. The severance amount is paid monthly together with the salary and is deposited into a blocked account in a Greenlandic financial institution.

Housing:

A staff housing can be provided for the position, for which a deposit and rent, utilities, etc. will be paid according to the applicable rules for rent payment in the Greenland Self-Government and the municipality's properties in Greenland. If permanent staff housing cannot be made available immediately upon commencement, employees entitled to temporary housing will be offered a temporary rental unit, for which rent, utilities, etc. will be paid in accordance with the above. The start date depends on when a staff housing is available. A relocation travel allowance and moving of household goods are provided in accordance with applicable regulations.
