Nurse with an interest in psychiatric nursing sought for Psychiatric Department

Are you interested in actively participating in the development and transformation processes currently underway in psychiatry in Greenland? Do you want to do something with your nursing and are you eager, in collaboration with the head nurse, to be a cultural bearer and developer of the department's nursing? Then you now have the chance to be part of the team by applying for a job as a nurse in the psychiatric ward in Nuuk.

About the department

Department A1 is part of the psychiatric area in Nuuk. We receive both acute and planned patients who need hospitalization for assessment, treatment, care, and rehabilitation. A1 covers all specialties and ages. We have room for 12 patients with mental disorders, including three patients in a secured section. The psychiatric department is led daily by a head nurse. We are a team consisting of nurses, psychiatric and health assistants, and educators. We consider interdisciplinary collaboration essential and necessary. We work in the department based on a milieu therapeutic and de-escalating approach to patient treatment, where the contact person arrangement and I-supportive nursing, psychoeducation, relationships, and networks are the foundation for good psychiatric nursing. Efforts for a good working environment and safety are highly prioritized. Just as we focus on reducing coercion, visible and present leadership. We work with nursing documentation in EPJ Cosmic, and we also receive students and trainees in education.

Overall, the psychiatric area consists, in addition to the inpatient department A1, of an outpatient clinic for children, adolescents, and adults who are undergoing outpatient assessment, need treatment follow-up, or have a psychotherapeutic course with psychiatrists and psychologists. The area has a social worker function and psychiatric therapy. Throughout the Greenlandic health regions, there is an associated district psychiatry that supports patients in life outside the hospital.

Desired professional qualifications:

  • Authorization as a nurse
  • Experience with or interest in psychiatric nursing, possibly specialized training
  • Quality-conscious and committed
  • Good collaboration skills and a desire to share knowledge
  • Good at building relationships even with severely ill people and aware of their communication

We offer:

  • Introduction
  • An innovative and active professional environment with, among other things, teaching, conferences, supervision, and reflection
  • Great opportunity for influence on work tasks
