By agreement Full-time On-site 27 Oct 2026 Deadline: 21 Nov 2026

We are looking for a lawyer for the Department of Fisheries, Hunting, Agriculture, and Self-Sufficiency in Nuuk. The position involves working with complex legal issues and political support, where you will contribute to the sustainable management of Greenland's resources.

Do you want to help shape the legal framework for one of Greenland's most important community-supporting sectors? Do you thrive on complex legal issues, political service, and a work environment where your expertise has a direct impact on societal development? Then you might be the lawyer we are looking for.

In the Department of Fisheries, Hunting, Agriculture, and Self-Sufficiency, you will play a central role in ensuring sustainable and responsible management of Greenland's living resources. Fishing and hunting are the backbone of the country's economy, culture, and future development — and as a lawyer, you will be a key person in ensuring that decisions, legislation, and management rest on a solid legal foundation.

Tasks

In this position, you will have a broad and challenging portfolio, where you will draft and revise laws, regulations, and legal notes that form the basis for the department's area of responsibility. You will be part of the ongoing ministerial service and prepare responses to the Inatsisartut and its committees. Additionally, you will advise the department's employees on administrative law, conduct legal interpretation and quality assurance of decision-making bases, and handle inquiries from the Ombudsman for Inatsisartut. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to the development of policies for sustainable management of natural resources, and in the long term, you may participate in international fisheries negotiations, where your legal insight can help influence Greenland's position.

You will become part of a department where a strong professional community, open dialogue, and effective collaboration are central to task resolution. The work is characterized by close collaboration among colleagues, ongoing knowledge sharing, and a culture where people help each other ensure high quality in legal products. At the same time, you will have a natural role in the cross-departmental work across the department's five divisions, where complex cases often require coordination, joint prioritization, and legal assistance across disciplines. This means that you will both have a strong departmental community and a broad contact surface throughout the organization, where you contribute to creating coherence, legal security, and quality in the department's overall work.

There is a focus on a sustainable work culture, where there is room for flexibility and a life outside of work, and where you can balance professional ambitions with a good work environment and a stable everyday life.

Your qualifications

We are looking for a lawyer with a solid legal education and a strong ability to communicate complex legal issues clearly and precisely. You thrive in a politically governed environment, where the pace is high, and where legal assessments must be delivered with both quality and certainty. You work independently, structured, and collaboratively, and you have an interest in political processes and a desire to use your expertise in an organization where legal decisions have a direct impact on societal development.

Working life in Greenland's Self-Government and career opportunities

As a lawyer in Greenland's Self-Government, you will be part of an organization where legal quality and social responsibility are closely linked. You will work closely with the political decision-making processes and have the opportunity to see the direct effect of your work in society. The position offers you strong professional development, broad insight into politically governed processes, and experience in an area of great national significance.

Nuuk also offers an engaged local community and a culture that provides good conditions for both professional immersion and personal well-being. The overall package makes the position an attractive step for lawyers who wish to build a career with both professional weight and societal relevance.
