We are looking for a social and health assistant for the psychiatric department in Nuuk. The position involves working with patients, developing psychiatric care, and collaborating in a multidisciplinary team. An introduction and focus on a safe working environment are offered. Do you want to participate in the development of psychiatry in Greenland? -Then you are the one we need.
The position can be filled from December 1, 2026, or by further agreement. The position may possibly be filled in a temporary role of at least 4 months duration. The weekly working hours are 40 hours/week in alternating day, evening, and night shifts. You should expect to be on duty every 2nd weekend. If you are new to psychiatry and seeking a permanent position, you can receive a special introductory program.
A1 is a psychiatric department that receives both acute and planned patients from all over Greenland. We have room for 12 patients with mental disorders. There is space for 3 patients in a sheltered section. The psychiatric department is led daily by a head nurse. About 22 employees are employed, consisting of: nurses, health assistants, educators, and physiotherapists/occupational therapists. In the department, we work on the development of psychiatric care and milieu therapy. We focus on Self-Supporting nursing, patient and medication safety, contact person function, conflict management, relationships and networks, involving the patient in the treatment process, and psycho-education.
As an assistant, you will be responsible for the task of contact person for a smaller group of patients in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. You will need to contribute with frameworks and structure for everyday life, collaborate with the patient to develop coping plans, observe psychopathology and document, and conduct self-supporting conversations. You will need to administer medication within your area of competence. You will assist in training and retraining daily skills for the patients. In the discharge phase, you will focus on the good life outside the hospital together with the patient.

The psychiatric department is part of the psychiatric area in Greenland and is located at Greenland's National Hospital Queen Ingrid's Hospital. The psychiatric area is managed daily by a regional management. The psychiatric area includes the inpatient department A1 and the district psychiatry in Nuuk. We have a well-functioning outpatient clinic with doctors and psychologists who work with patients from all over Greenland, including via telepsychiatry. In addition, the department is associated with a psychiatric therapy that works with rehabilitation - recovery.

- Be educated as a Social and Health Assistant or similar
- Have psychiatric experience preferably from acute psychiatry or interest in it

- Contribute to a good and safe working environment
