The Department of Finance is looking for a skilled translator with a focus on high quality and service. The position involves written translation between Greenlandic, Danish, and English, as well as quality assurance of external translations. You will work in an informal environment with dedicated colleagues.

In the Department of Finance, we have an internal interpreting function. The internal interpreting function consists of two translators. The interpreting function is part of the Management Secretariat, which handles several functions regarding the internal operations of the department, as well as in relation to servicing the Minister and the Permanent Secretary. The translator reports to the head of the Management Secretariat.

About you
You are a trained translator or have experience that gives you equivalent qualifications. It is fine if you already have practical experience with translation work.

A Bachelor's degree in translation and interpreting would be a great advantage, but is not a requirement.

If you are familiar with F2, that is perfect, and it is also fine if you are used to using Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Knowledge of terminology in the economic field is a significant advantage.

You have a good overview, and you understand how to plan so that things are ready at the right time and surprises are avoided. You emphasize high quality and being organized.

You enjoy working alone, but you also like to collaborate with others.

You thrive in an environment with an informal tone, short command lines, and engaged colleagues. It is completely natural for you to provide good service and to place a high value on quality, as well as to contribute to a good working environment.


About the position

  • Written translation especially between Greenlandic/Danish and English from time to time
  • Quality assurance of translations from external interpreters
  • At times, contact person for external interpreters as well as coordination of translation work
  • Responsible for the professional quality of the translations
  • Be involved in ensuring the department's submission of material for political processing
  • Be involved in servicing the Minister and the Permanent Secretary
  • Ad hoc tasks


As a translator in the Department of Finance, you should be able to handle smaller urgent translations, but also larger translations of legislation as well as various economic publications will be tasks you will work on.

To the extent that we do not have the capacity internally to handle the translation tasks, they will be sent for translation outside the department. We want to maintain a high and consistent quality level, and that means you will need to quality assure/proofread translations that are performed outside the department.

Cross-cutting coordination of translation tasks, adherence to deadlines, ensuring high quality, as well as responsiveness and service are important elements of being a translator in the Department of Finance.

Working in the Management Secretariat means helping wherever there is a need, regardless of the task.

Salary and employment conditions
The position will be filled under collective agreement terms in accordance with the applicable agreement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant organization.

Salary and employment conditions, including the right to relocation and moving expenses, in accordance with the collective agreement applicable at the time of appointment between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

Housing
No staff housing is provided for the position. If an applicant already has staff housing through employment in the Government, the right to assigned staff housing is retained. The staff housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon termination of the employment relationship.
