Ilisimatusarfik is seeking a PhD student for a research project on climate change and its impact on Greenlandic school students. The position is fully funded and requires a master's degree in social sciences or education. The application deadline is September 8, 2026.

The position is available for occupancy from November 1 or as soon as possible by agreement. The working hours are 40 hours per week.
The position is associated with the research project: Experiences and Perceptions of Climate Change: A View of the Next Generation (EPIC). The project investigates Greenlandic school students' relationship with climate change and to what extent climate change figures in the education. The research project is conducted using child panels and in primary schools located across Greenland. The research project is a collaboration between the University of Copenhagen, the University of Greenland (Ilisimatusarfik), the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources (Pinngortitaleriffik), and UNICEF Greenland.
The project is funded by the Danish Free Research Fund (DFF) (5345-00021B) and is led by P.I. Professor Benedikte Brincker, University of Copenhagen and adjunct professor Ilisimatusarfik, Co-P.I. Assistant Professor Mîtdlârak Lennert, Institute of Society, Economy and Journalism, Ilisimatusarfik and Co-P.I. and Lecturer Lars Demant Poort, Institute of Learning, Ilisimatusarfik.

Have a higher education at the master's level in social sciences or learning
Have knowledge of Greenlandic and/or Arctic conditions
Can make yourself understood in Greenlandic, Danish, and English
Otherwise meet the requirements to be enrolled as a PhD student

Ilisimatusarfik, the University of Greenland, was established in 1987 and currently offers 13 different programs including some part-time programs at both diploma and master's level. About the Joint Administration
The Joint Administration services the entire university. It is led by the university director. The Joint Administration has departments in Ilimmarfik. The departments work closely with the academic units but also collaborate with each other. The tasks of the Joint Administration are: study administration, personnel administration, servicing the board and Academic Council, as well as other service functions for the university's staff and students. The Joint Administration is also responsible for the building operations of Ilimmarfik.
Salary and employment conditions
Salary and employment conditions, including the right to relocation and moving expenses, in accordance with the applicable agreement/collective agreement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization at the time of commencement.
For an applicant with the right documentable qualifications, employment can occur as a special consultant, chief consultant, or senior advisor in accordance with the applicable collective agreement.
Housing
No staff housing is provided for the position. If an applicant already has staff housing through employment in the Self-Government, the right to assigned staff housing is maintained. The staff housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon termination of the employment relationship.
3 months probation period
In this position, there is a 3 months probation period.
