Health Visitors Wanted for Unique Temporary Positions in North Greenland

For you who are passionate about preventive work and wish for time with families, professional immersion, and a daily life with great independence.

We are ahead of schedule and are looking for engaged health visitors for exciting temporary positions in North Greenland in 2027.

Uummannaq:

You will be affiliated with Uummannaq Health Center and will provide health care in the town as well as the surrounding settlements in close collaboration with the local health care assistant.

Upernavik and Qaanaaq

You will be affiliated with Upernavik and Qaanaaq Health Centers and will provide health care in both districts as well as the associated settlements. You will work closely with the local health care assistants, who have in-depth knowledge of the families and communities.

Both positions are 40 hours per week and include the following employment periods:

·     February 1 – April 1, 2027

·     August 15 – November 15, 2027

The periods can be adjusted by agreement

A job with great professional breadth

As a health visitor, you will be a central part of the preventive effort for children and families.

You will have the opportunity to work independently and follow families through the child's first years of life and school age.

Your tasks include, among other things:

·     Home visits to pregnant women and new families

·     Parent groups and individual guidance, based on material from MANU

·     Health visitor consultations

·     Health conversations with school children

·     Visits and teaching in daycare institutions and schools

·     Child examinations and vaccinations according to the Greenlandic childhood vaccination program

·     Interdisciplinary collaboration on early intervention and vulnerable children and families

A daily life with both professionalism and experiences

The positions involve travel activity between towns and settlements.

The travels are a natural part of the work and give you the opportunity to bring health care close to families – even in the smaller communities.

You will also have the opportunity to experience some of Greenland's most beautiful areas and work in a health care system where proximity, relationships, and prevention are at the center.

·     Are a trained health visitor

·     Have experience with infants, toddlers, and school children

·     Work independently and in a structured manner

·     Thrive in interdisciplinary collaboration

·     Have a desire to work in the Greenlandic culture

·     Are flexible and willing to travel between towns and settlements

·     Actively contribute to the development of health promotion and preventive work

Upernavik

Is beautifully located against a mountain and is one of the northernmost towns in Greenland. About 3000 inhabitants live here, distributed in Upernavik town and the associated settlements.

The town is special with its nine settlements, which means that most of the citizens in the area live in the settlements.

In winter, you can, among other things, go dog sledding on the ice, experience the northern lights, and days when the sun does not rise above the horizon.

In the summer months, fishing, whale watching, and boat trips are popular. From May to August, you can also experience the midnight sun.

Qaanaaq

Qaanaaq is Greenland's northernmost town with polar nights in winter and 24-hour sunlight in summer. Here you will experience a very special culture and community far from everything else.

Dog sledding and northern lights are part of everyday life in winter, while sailing, hiking, and icebergs are your everyday life in summer.

Housing

Housing will be provided according to the rules applicable in the Greenlandic Health Service at any given time.

Salary and employment

Salary and employment conditions, including the right to travel for relocation and moving expenses, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement applicable at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

Citizenship

If you are not a Nordic citizen, please note that employment is conditional on a valid residence and work permit. Residence and work permits can only be applied for upon agreed employment.
