Queen Ingrid's Hospital in Nuuk offers a 1-year position in surgery starting November 1, 2026, or by agreement.

Surgical area

The surgical area has 54 beds evenly distributed between the parenchymal surgical, gynecological-obstetric department, and orthopedic surgical department, where ear-nose-throat patients are also admitted, 8 beds in the day ward, as well as 8 children's beds shared with the medical department and 4 cradles.

Furthermore, there are 85 beds in the patient hotel, shared with the hospital's other departments and Queen Ingrid's Health Center, where out-of-town patients for examination and treatment are also admitted (day hospital function).

The department is staffed with 11 senior physicians, with 3 in each specialty and senior physician consultants in ENT, urology, and breast surgery.

There is a specialty-responsible senior physician for each specialty, as well as educationally responsible senior physicians. Additionally, there are about 10 resident doctors.

The department regularly hosts students in clinical placements and employs a clinical lecturer affiliated with AUH.

The surgical area has approximately 5400 admissions annually, about 500 births, and around 2800 surgeries are performed. In the outpatient clinic, there are 11,500 consultations annually distributed among resident doctors and specialists. Outpatient minor procedures and diagnostic examinations such as gastro-, colo-, procto- and cystoscopies, as well as pressure-flow urodynamics and ultrasound investigations are performed. The doctors in the department conduct consultation-gastroscopy and surgical trips to the coastal health centers, where procedures are performed on the same day and scopes are done, as well as a large number of patients are assessed.

As an ENT resident, you will be associated with the ENT/orthopedic surgical department in your daily work and supervised to carry out ward rounds, endoscopy, outpatient functions, and a wide range of elective surgeries.

The on-call duties are shared among the 4 specialties, where a varied spectrum of patients is received across all fields.      

Knowledge of Greenlandic conditions and language is an advantage, but not a requirement.

Salary and employment

Salary and employment conditions, including the right to relocation and moving expenses, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement in effect at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

Physician: Employment is contingent upon your ability to present a valid Danish authorization and completed KBU education.
