Emergency Management Specialist

The Agency for Society Security is seeking an emergency management specialist to enhance advisory efforts in emergency preparedness in Greenland and the Faroe Islands. The Agency for Society Security is seeking an emergency management professional to be based in Nuuk. Do you have knowledge of emergency management and a desire to work with advising authorities and businesses in Greenland and the Faroe Islands based on the local risk landscape and the heightened security political situation in the North Atlantic and the Arctic? SAMSIK is seeking a new employee to strengthen the advisory efforts in emergency preparedness in Greenland and the Faroe Islands in close collaboration with Greenlandic and Faroese authorities. The position is for 2 years and is located in SAMSIK's Advisory Office with the workplace at the Department for Environment and Emergency Preparedness in the Department of Nature and Environment in Nuuk.

The task

As an advisor, you will play a central role in SAMSIK's assistance to the authorities in Greenland and the Faroe Islands in the area of emergency preparedness. The effort focuses on providing advice aimed at ensuring resilience and robustness in the Realm of Denmark. Communication, coordination, and relationship building are central to the task solution.

  • Your tasks will include: Acting as a liaison between SAMSIK and relevant authorities in Greenland and the Faroe Islands.
  • Advise on preparedness broadly, including the development of risk assessments and strategy.
  • Advise on emergency planning and crisis management based on local threats and risks.
  • Contribute to developing, planning, conducting, and evaluating crisis management exercises that strengthen the participants' ability to handle crises.
  • Create and maintain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including engaging in close dialogue with Greenlandic and Faroese authorities as well as Danish authorities in the North Atlantic.
  • Contribute to building locally anchored competencies in the field of emergency preparedness.
  • Plan and conduct meetings, workshops, and presentations – and communicate complex topics in a clear and trustworthy manner.

Who are you?

We are looking for a colleague with a strong emergency management profile and a desire to work in the intersection of security, advisory, and collaboration. You have a relevant education in, for example, social sciences, disaster and risk management, or another relevant professional background from the police, emergency services, or defense sector, and preferably experience as an advisor, security or emergency manager, or as a caseworker in an authority, company, or organization that works with security and emergency preparedness.

  • We emphasize that you: Have experience in emergency planning, as well as an interest in cross-sector emergency preparedness and national crisis management.
  • Demonstrates initiative and independence in problem-solving and is motivated to provide high-quality advice based on SAMSIK's solid expertise in emergency preparedness.
  • Can develop collaborative relationships and engage in constructive partnerships.
  • Is responsible, proactive, and can independently make decisions on their own.
  • Can translate professional knowledge into easily understandable messages.
  • Is structured, can drive processes and follow tasks to completion.
  • Practical experience with advising, coordinating, or project management, as well as strategic and political understanding of the North Atlantic region is an advantage – but not a requirement.

In addition, we also emphasize that you find it easy to understand the roles, responsibilities, and interactions of the Greenlandic and Faroese authorities – and that you can familiarize yourself with relevant legislation and translate rules and frameworks into practice in collaboration with our partners.

Who are we?

The Agency for Societal Security (SAMSIK) brings together the fields of emergency planning, supply security, critical infrastructure, telecommunications, cyber and information security, national security authority, and the National Operational Staff (NOST). We advise authorities, businesses, and citizens on the prevention and management of the threats facing society.

The agency is under the Ministry of Social Security and Emergency Management and consists of approximately 200 employees.

It is a requirement for employment that you can be security cleared to the classification level SECRET and maintain the security clearance throughout your employment.

The employment is for 2 years with the workplace at the Department of Nature and Environment in Nuuk.

The working hours are determined according to the rules applicable at any time in the agreement.

Travel activity to the Faroe Islands and Denmark will be part of the position.

Housing can be provided in Nuuk for the position.
