Head of MISI and Department for Support Staff

The Municipality of Sermersooq is seeking a development-oriented Head of Department for MISI and the department for support personnel for children and young people for the Administration for Children and School.

Therefore, we are looking for a Head of Department for MISI and the department for support persons for children and young people, who can help develop both the counseling area and the overall organization across daycare, schools, and other professional fields.

A managerial role with real influence:

As Head of MISI and the department for support staff for children and young people, you will be a central strategic leader in the Administration for Children and Schools and report directly to the director.

You will be responsible for the professional and organizational development in MISI and the department for support personnel for children and young people.

You will become an important collaborator in the development of the entire administration. Together with the other department heads, you will help create an organization where children and families experience one cohesive municipality – not different departments. Currently, for example, we have initiated a restructuring of the approach to the support person area. The effort should be based on the child's needs where the child is, and not on where the money currently lies, or which department formally owns a grant, and that resources should be used earlier, more flexibly, and more professionally.

This means that you will have the opportunity to influence the development of future collaboration between counseling, early childhood education, schools, prevention, support, and other initiatives.

About the position:

The Administration for Children and Schools consists of the following departments: School, MISI & department for support persons for children and young people, Daycare, Leisure & Culture, Development, Health Promotion & Prevention, and the Staff.

MISI is a counseling center that offers educational-psychological advice to professionals working with children and young people aged 0-18 years. MISI advises on issues related to children's development, well-being, and learning. MISI Sermersooq works every day to ensure well-being, development, and learning for children and young people in Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq. This requires a counseling unit that is clear in its role, strong in its professionalism, and sustainable in its organization.

The Department for Support Persons for Children and Young People provides a social pedagogical effort for children and young people with significant physical, mental, intellectual, or sensory disabilities and/or where there are social challenges in the child's environment, typically at home or within the family, and where there is also a need for special pedagogical support. The special pedagogical effort can also be directed towards the child or young person's family, daycare, school, and/or leisure activities.

The position is full-time and is located in Nuuk.

Your most important tasks:

You must ensure a well-functioning operation and be a driving force for development.

This includes, among other things, that you:

• Leads and develops MISI and the department for support staff for children and young people with a focus on high professional quality and sustainable operations.
• Support the director in bridging the gap between the political leadership and the professional organization.
• Translates strategies into concrete solutions that create value for children, young people, and families.
• Drives development and change processes across the organization.
• Strengthens the collaboration between MISI, early childhood education, schools, support personnel area, and other partners.
• Develops a culture characterized by interdisciplinarity, learning, and shared responsibility.
• Budget planning and monitoring

Your profile

• Has a relevant educational background as a teacher, educator, psychologist, or equivalent – preferably supplemented with further education or advanced training in the field, management, or leadership.
• Has documented management experience, preferably from a politically governed organization.
• A strategic leader with the ability to translate political decisions into practice.
• Focus on employee well-being, competence development, and followership.
• Has experience and understanding of change management and organizational development.
• Has strong written and verbal communication skills
• Is strong in creating cross-sector collaboration across departments and sectors.

Criminal and Child Certificate:

The position is covered by the law on the obligation to obtain criminal and child certificates. According to the law, employment can only begin once the municipality has received satisfactory criminal and child certificates. We must therefore point out that the start date can only be agreed upon once the municipality has received the child certificate from the National Police as well as the criminal record from the Police.

The child certificate is obtained by the municipality with the consent of the individual, while the criminal record is obtained by the individual from the Police.

Salary and employment conditions:

Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the applicable agreement between the Government of Greenland, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of appointment between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

The employment will be subject to a 3-month probation period.
