Department of Geology is seeking 1-2 geologists. Are you interested in working in an internationally oriented organization? Do you have an interest in the development of the mineral resources sector in Greenland, marketing the mineral potential, and geological fieldwork? Then a job as a geologist/special consultant in the Department of Geology in the Ministry of Business, Minerals, Energy, Justice, and Gender Equality in Nuuk is for you.

About the position

We are looking for an ore geologist, economic geologist, or geochemist to support our ore geology team in the Department of Geology under the Ministry of Business, Raw Materials, Energy, Justice, and Equality in the Government of Greenland (Naalakkersuisut).

The role focuses on understanding ore-forming processes through geological, geochemical, and economic interpretation in remote Arctic areas. You will contribute to target area definition, resource assessment, and decision-making from early exploration to advanced project phases.

The position serves as a link between geological expertise and public administration and supports the work with permits, reporting, data management, and strategic decision-making in relation to Greenland's mineral resources.

  • Your primary tasks will be: Geological mapping, sampling, and core logging
  • Interpretation of mineralization, changes, and ore control factors
  • Integration of geological, geochemical, and geophysical data
  • Support for resource estimation, economic assessments, and reporting
  • Contribute to technical reports and regulatory submissions
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and Greenlandic regulations.

Your profile:

We imagine that you are a trained geologist or have a corresponding geoscience background, for example in economic geology, geochemistry, or a related field. An MSc or PhD degree would be an advantage. Experience from the raw materials industry or public administration is also an advantage, but we also encourage recent graduates to apply.

We emphasize that you have experience in metallic and/or critical mineral systems, which can contribute to the exploration and assessment of mineral resources. The position requires strong skills in interpreting geochemical data as well as the ability to work analytically with complex datasets.

Experience with fieldwork in remote or Arctic conditions will be an advantage, as will knowledge of GIS (for example, ArcGIS Pro or QGIS) and the use of relevant geological and geochemical software tools, which are important for the role. Additionally, it would be beneficial if you have a forklift certification, but this is not a requirement.

As a person, you have strong analytical and problem-solving skills and thrive in field-oriented work under varying and sometimes demanding conditions. At the same time, you are adaptable and resilient and can work independently with responsibility for your own tasks, but you also function well in interdisciplinary teams and collaborate across disciplines.

It is an advantage if you have knowledge of Greenlandic language and culture. For applicants outside Greenland, emphasis will be placed on the ability, willingness, and desire to work and live under different cultural conditions than those accustomed to.

Salary and employment conditions

Salary and employment conditions, including the right to travel for joining and leaving and relocation of personal belongings, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

If your profile and geological experience are suitable, there will be an opportunity for employment as a special consultant.

The working hours are 40 hours a week.

Housing

No staff housing is provided for the position. If an applicant already has staff housing through employment in the Self-Government, the right to the assigned staff housing is retained. The staff housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon termination of the employment relationship.
