The Greenland Climate Research Centre is looking for a scientist for a permanent position in Nuuk. SEARCH THIS POSITION The Greenland Climate Research Centre (GCRC) at the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources invites applications for a permanent research position based in Nuuk, Greenland.
The position carries scientific responsibility for the MarineBasis Zackenberg monitoring programme, part of the Greenland Ecosystem Monitoring (GEM) framework. The successful candidate will also have opportunities to initiate and contribute to additional research projects.
About GCRC
GCRC conducts interdisciplinary, long-term research and monitoring of physical, chemical, and biological processes in Greenlandic fjords and marine areas. The Centre also contributes to research-based education, including the Arctic Science Study Program (ASSP) and the SILA Bachelor in Arctic Biology programme. In addition, GCRC provides scientific advice to Greenlandic authorities and represents Greenlandic marine research in national and international contexts.
The Position
The successful candidate will serve as Principal Investigator (PI) of the MarineBasis Zackenberg programme. Responsibilities include planning and participating in the annual field campaign in the Zackenberg area, Northeast Greenland, as well as ensuring high scientific and organisational standards in programme implementation.
The position requires strong organizational skills, experience managing and analyzing large datasets (preferably long-term monitoring time series), and the ability to secure external research funding. The candidate will join an international research environment conducting integrated studies in physical oceanography, marine ecology, and climate-related processes, with a focus on understanding natural variability and climate-driven change in Arctic marine ecosystems.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate is expected to:

Act as PI and scientific lead of MarineBasis Zackenberg

Applicants must hold a PhD in physical oceanography or a closely related marine science discipline.

Proven ability to attract external research funding

Experience with marine or environmental monitoring programs.

Experience working with large and long-term datasets
Salary and employment conditions, including the right to travel to and from work and to move household property, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement between the Greenland Self-Government and the relevant organization authorized to negotiate in force at the time of joining.
Housing
No staff housing will be assigned to the position. If an applicant already has staff housing through employment with the Self-Government, the right to assigned staff housing will be retained. The staff housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon termination of the employment relationship.
The Greenland Institute of Natural Resources will provide access to rental accommodation during the first year of employment. In subsequent years, accommodation can be found in the private market.
