The position carries scientific responsibility for the MarineBasis Zackenberg monitoring programme, part of the Greenland Ecosystem Monitoring (GEM) framework. The successful candidate will also have opportunities to initiate and contribute to additional research projects.

About GCRC

GCRC conducts interdisciplinary, long-term research and monitoring of physical, chemical and biological processes in Greenlandic fjords and marine areas. In addition, GCRC provides scientific advice to Greenlandic authorities and represents Greenlandic marine research in national and international contexts.

The Position

The successful candidate is expected to:

  • Act as PI and scientific lead of MarineBasis Zackenberg
  • Plan and participate in annual fieldwork activities
  • Manage, analyse, and report monitoring and research data
  • Develop new interdisciplinary research projects and prepare funding applications
  • Publish in international peer-reviewed journals
  • Contribute to teaching and educational activities

Applicants must hold a PhD in physical oceanography or a closely related marine science discipline.

Assessment will emphasise:

  • Scientific expertise and vision within physical oceanography or a closely related marine science discipline and Arctic marine monitoring
  • A strong publication record in international peer-reviewed journals
  • Proven ability to attract external research funding
  • Experience with marine or environmental monitoring programmes.
  • Experience in interdisciplinary and international collaboration
  • Experience working with large and long-term datasets

Salary and employment conditions, including the right to travel to and from work and to move household property, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement between the Greenland Self-Government and the relevant organization authorized to negotiate in force at the time of joining.

Housing

No staff housing will be assigned to the position. If an applicant already has staff housing through employment with the Self-Government, the right to assigned staff housing will be retained. The staff housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon termination of the employment relationship.

The Greenland Institute of Natural Resources will provide access to rental accommodation during the first year of employment. Following years accommodation can be found at the private market.
