AC Officer/Special Consultant for the Aviation Sector

Would you like to work with Greenland's critically important aviation sector at a time when Greenland's transport and strategic significance is rapidly evolving? Are you interested in working closely with the political level and contributing to decision-making, legislation, and solutions that impact citizens, businesses, and cohesion in Greenland?

SEARCH THIS POSITION Do you want to work with Greenland's critically important aviation sector at a time when Greenland's traffic and strategic significance is undergoing significant development? Are you interested in working closely with the political level and contributing to the decision-making basis, legislation, and solutions that matter for citizens, businesses, and social cohesion in Greenland?

Then a position as an AC officer/special consultant in the aviation sector at the Aeronautical Office in the Department of Housing, Infrastructure, Outlying Districts, and Emergency Management might be something for you.

Close to politics, society, and concrete solutions

As an employee in the Department for Housing, Infrastructure, Outlying Districts, and Emergency Management, you will become part of the administrative engine room where political decisions are translated into concrete initiatives. Working in a department means that we must ensure that the political level has a solid basis for decision-making and that political decisions can be translated into concrete solutions.

You will work closely with the political level of the Naalakkersuisut and contribute to decision-making bases, briefings, legislative work, and analyses in an area of great societal importance.

In the infrastructure sector, there is often a short distance between analysis, political decision, and practical reality. Your work will therefore have a direct impact on cities, housing, transport connections, and collaboration with external authorities and stakeholders.

Generalist with a focus on the aviation sector

You will have primary responsibility for tasks in the aviation sector. You may also receive ad hoc tasks within, among other areas, traffic and telecommunications, as well as service contracts for passenger transport.

Aviation and airports are central to Greenland's cohesion, mobility, supply, business development, and international relations.

The Aeronautical Office collaborates with relevant national authorities on legislation and framework conditions for aviation in Greenland to ensure that solutions are required, taking into account both international and national regulations as well as the geographical, climatic, and traffic conditions that apply here in the country.

The aviation sector includes, among other things, 13 airports and 46 helicopter landing sites, as well as the general rules and frameworks for aviation in Greenland. The Greenlandic airport structure and traffic service are undergoing significant development with the construction of new runways in Nuuk, Ilulissat, and Qaqortoq.

The Aeronautical Office manages the service contract with Greenland Airports Regional A/S for the operation of public airports and helicopter landing sites in Greenland. In addition, the office maintains close contact with Air Greenland, which flies to all heliports and airports in the country.

You can read more about Greenland's airports at https://kanat.gl/en/greenlands-infrastructure/airports and about aviation regulations at https://www.trafikstyrelsen.dk/areas-of-work/aviation.

The tasks

You will have a broad role with responsibility and variety. Your tasks may include, among other things:

  • draft responses to inquiries from citizens and politicians
  • write a draft for a decision proposal
  • write briefings for the politicians
  • develop policies, strategies, and solutions proposals
  • prepare analyses, notes, and reports on traffic, economic, and operational issues
  • prepare consultation responses to legislative proposals and decision papers from other departments
  • represent the department at meetings with stakeholders and partners
  • identify new challenges and opportunities in the field
  • collaboration with national authorities, agencies, companies, and external stakeholders
  • project management and coordination
  • give contributions and support to colleagues

There may be business trips to Greenland, Denmark, and abroad, depending on the tasks that need to be addressed.

  • motivated by societal development, politics, and responsibility
  • can work in a structured way in a changing and politically governed everyday life
  • can convey complex issues clearly and precisely
  • wants to work at the intersection of law, politics, economics, and practice
  • thrives on both independent tasks and close collaboration with colleagues
  • has an eye for both details and larger strategic contexts

If you are newly graduated, we provide thorough training. If you have experience, you will quickly take on independent responsibility.

What do you get?

You get:

  • a job in an area of great social and political significance
  • insight into and influence on decisions regarding Greenland's future infrastructure
  • a daily life close to the political level of the Naalakkersuisut
  • opportunity to work with aviation, airports, and service contracts in a Greenlandic context
  • a strong professional environment with dedicated colleagues
  • a workplace with a fast pace, high ambitions, and room for professional development

The Aeronautical Office works with aviation, airports, service contracts for passenger transport, telecommunications, and traffic. The office is part of the Infrastructure Department, which also includes the Maritime Office responsible for shipping and ports. We have a total of 11 employees.

The office handles tasks at the intersection of law, politics, economics, planning, and specific operational matters. The tasks are often complex, politically sensitive, and critical to society. This makes the work both professionally challenging and meaningful.

The work takes place in a busy environment where responsibility, job satisfaction, and high professionalism go hand in hand. Everyday life is characterized by good humor, collegial support, and respect for the need to balance work and family life.

We emphasize a good collegial community and a workplace with high ceilings. Throughout the year, social events are also held for the employees in the department, including an annual trip in Nuuk fjord with the opportunity to experience the Greenlandic nature together with colleagues.
