Health Professional Educator/Professional Teacher

The Institute of Health and Nature at Ilisimatusarfik is seeking a health professional educator/professional teacher for the Department of Nursing, starting May 1, 2026, or by mutual agreement. The working hours are 40 hours per week.

The position is a 5-year fixed-term employment with a clear qualification process. It is a requirement that the employee completes and finishes a relevant master's or graduate program within the employment period. Once the degree is obtained, there will be an appointment to a teaching assistant position in the same department, provided there has been a job posting for a teaching assistant according to applicable agreements and regulations.

About the Institute for Health and Nature

The Institute of Health and Nature is part of Ilisimatusarfik and is responsible for education and research in health and natural sciences in an Arctic and societal context. The Department of Nursing educates the nurses of the future with a focus on quality, professionalism, and relevance to the Greenlandic healthcare system. In addition to the Department of Nursing, the institute also consists of the Department of SILA (the biology program) and the Center for Health Research. Approximately 45 students are enrolled in the program, and the department has an (upcoming) Head of Department, two full-time employees, a part-time professor, and PhD students, as well as a number of external guest lecturers, adjunct lecturers, and several affiliated researchers. The department offers a bachelor's degree in nursing as well as continuing education and further training in clinical supervision, grief counseling, and individual subject courses.

As a vocational teacher, you will be part of an engaged professional environment with responsibility for:

• Teaching and guidance of nursing students
• Planning, implementation, and evaluation of teaching
• Development of teaching materials and pedagogical methods
• Participation in the professional development of the education
• Contribute to research and development activities at the institute.
• Collaboration with clinical practice fields

Qualifications

We are looking for an applicant who:

• Has a professionally oriented bachelor's degree in a health field, e.g. nurse, midwife, or equivalent.
• Is motivated to complete a relevant master's degree within 5 years.
• Has clinical experience
• Has teaching or communication experience in nursing or health sciences.
• Flexibility and willingness to work in a small but ambitious university environment
• Language skills in Greenlandic, Danish, and English are a great advantage, just as knowledge of Greenlandic conditions and an international perspective are highly valued.

About Ilisimatusarfik

Ilisimatusarfik, Greenland's University, was established in 1987 and currently offers 13 different programs, including options for part-time studies at both diploma and master's levels. Ilisimatusarfik is an Arctic university that creates knowledge and innovation in a rapidly developing region. The board is the university's highest management body. Daily management is handled by the rector and the university director. The four institutes are led by an institute head, who is advised by an institute council. Ilisimatusarfik consists of 4 institutes:

The Joint Administration serves the entire university. It is led by the university director. The Joint Administration has departments in Ilimmarfik and Ilinniarfissuaq. The departments work closely with the academic units, but also collaborate with each other. The tasks of the Joint Administration include: student administration, personnel administration, servicing the board and the Academic Council, as well as other service functions for the university's staff and students. The Joint Administration is also responsible for the building operations of Ilimmarfik.

Salary and employment conditions

Salary and employment conditions, including the right to travel for joining and leaving, as well as relocation of personal belongings, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

Housing

No staff housing is provided for the position. If an applicant already has staff housing through employment in the Self-Government, the right to assigned staff housing is retained. The staff housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon termination of the employment relationship.
