Greenland Police is seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer to lead the finance function. The position requires solid financial expertise, management experience, and strategic understanding. You will be responsible for budgets and financial management in a complex organization with a high level of activity.
Do you want to lead the finance function in an organization where financial oversight and precise priorities have a direct impact on operational task resolution?
The Greenland Police is looking for an experienced finance manager who can combine solid financial expertise with present leadership and strategic understanding. You will be responsible for a central finance function in an organization with a high activity level, a comprehensive development portfolio, and a complex geographical and security political reality.
We are looking for you who can create an overview, translate financial data into a solid basis for decision-making, and ensure robust financial management. At the same time, you should be able to develop employees, collaborate across departments, and actively participate in practical task resolution.
Start date: by agreement
About the job
As a finance manager, you will have overall responsibility for the Greenland Police's finance function. The budget framework for the police district for salaries and operations is approximately 310 million DKK in 2026 and is expected to rise to about 360 million DKK in 2030.
Financial management must support a complex operational organization with a high activity level, significant development needs, and a special geographical and security political position in the transatlantic area. You must ensure an accurate and timely overview of the finances and create a basis for both daily operations and long-term priorities.
The finance department is one of four departments in the Greenland Police's staff, which also includes the management secretariat, HR, and IT and infrastructure. You will report to the head of staff and become a central sparring partner for the police district's management.
You will have personnel responsibility for 9-10 employees with administrative and academic backgrounds. The department's tasks range from accounting and budgeting to forecasts, analyses, and management information.
You must set the direction for the department's work, develop employees' professionalism, and strengthen the quality of financial management. At the same time, you should further develop forecasts and management information so that the organization gains greater transparency in resource utilization and a better basis for making decisions.
You will work closely with the other leaders in the police district on financial priorities and cross-cutting solutions. The position requires both strategic understanding and the willingness to prepare analyses, case presentations, and financial overviews yourself. You will also participate in development projects and relevant steering groups with responsibility for contributing to financial assessments.
About you
You have a relevant financial education, experience with financial management, and documented leadership experience. You can combine personnel management and professional development with responsibility for the department's overall deliveries.
It is an advantage if you have:
Knowledge of state budget and accounting principles, preferably from a larger public or politically led organization
Experience with budgeting, financial analyses, forecasts, and management information
Experience in translating financial frameworks into concrete priorities in dialogue with leaders
Leadership, finance, and prioritization
You are a visible and accessible leader who creates direction, followership, and clear frameworks for task resolution. You develop employees' competencies and ensure a department where professional quality, collaboration, and timeliness are in focus.
You understand the interplay between finance, operations, and strategy. District finance is not only about budgets and accounts but also about prioritizing between different needs within an overall financial framework. You can engage in constructive dialogue with leaders about their needs, challenge assumptions, and clarify the financial consequences of different choices.
You are able to create understanding for necessary priorities and find solutions that take into account both the needs of individual units and the overall tasks of the police district. This requires financial insight, organizational understanding, and the ability to build trust – even when different interests are at stake.
Professionalism and collaboration
You thrive on alternating between strategic sparring, personnel management, and practical financial work. You are not afraid to engage in analyses, case presentations, and concrete financial issues yourself, and you can translate data into clear conclusions and actionable recommendations.
You work in a structured manner, maintain an overview under pressure, and can translate complex issues into concrete plans and timely deliveries. At the same time, you have an eye for how the finance function can be developed through better forecasts, more usable management information, and closer connections between finance and operations.
You communicate clearly, listen to the organization's perspectives, and are able to challenge decision-making bases and highlight financial risks in a constructive manner. You see collaboration with the rest of the police district as a prerequisite for good financial management while maintaining professional integrity and financial frameworks.
We are therefore looking for a finance manager who can combine experienced personnel management, financial expertise, and strategic understanding with a practical approach to tasks – and who can ensure that the Greenland Police's resources are used in the best possible way.
Salary and employment conditions
You will be employed on collective agreement terms in accordance with the applicable agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the relevant organization. Alternatively, you will be employed on similar terms.
You will be employed full-time corresponding to 40 hours weekly, including lunch time.
You will be employed in Nuuk, but since we service the entire police district in Greenland, travel activity may occur.
A non-furnished staff housing may be assigned to the position, for which you will pay a deposit, rent, and ongoing expenses. The size of the housing depends on the number of people in your household. Since there may be waiting time for the assignment of staff housing, you will be provided with a furnished vacant housing in the meantime. There may be accommodation in a hotel for a short period if there is also waiting time for a vacant housing. No vacant housing will be provided if you are already residing in Nuuk.
Free moving of personal belongings and travel expenses for you and your household will be provided in accordance with the applicable rules at any time.
It is a prerequisite for employment that you can be security cleared and maintain the security clearance throughout your employment.
The Greenland Police is a smoke- and nicotine-free workplace. The smoke-free and nicotine-free workplace applies regardless of where one works.
