Greenland's Climate Research Center is seeking a researcher/senior researcher with a PhD in physical oceanography for a 2-year position in Nuuk. The position involves research in Greenlandic waters and the development of interdisciplinary projects. Applicants must have experience in oceanographic research and data analysis.

Greenland's Climate Research Center at the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources invites applicants with a background in physical oceanography to a 2-year position with the possibility of extension as a researcher/senior researcher.

Greenland's Climate Research Center is responsible for several interdisciplinary programs within long-term monitoring and research in physical and biological parameters in fjords and marine areas in Greenland. In addition to research activities, the center develops and offers educational programs and contributes research-based advice to the Greenlandic authorities.

The position is aimed at applicants with an internationally recognized research background and knowledge of marine areas and ecosystems, preferably in an Arctic and Greenlandic context. The selected candidate will participate in the development of interdisciplinary research projects focusing on Greenlandic waters and the center's future strategy. The candidate will join an international group of researchers conducting extensive research in marine ecology and physical oceanography with the aim of understanding the natural variations of ecosystems, climatic changes, and societal impacts in the Arctic.

Responsibilities

The candidate will be required to

  • participate in the collection of research and monitoring data in Greenlandic fjords and adjacent marine areas
  • participate in the implementation and maintenance of the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources' oceanographic database
  • analyze and report field data as well as provide research-based advice to authorities
  • apply and communicate research results
  • contribute to the development of new internal and external interdisciplinary research projects
  • produce scientific knowledge at an international level
  • participate in international scientific organizations and networks, e.g., ICES, WGOH, NAFO.

Qualifications

The selected candidate has a PhD in physical oceanography or equivalent and has documented experience in physical oceanographic research, preferably in the Arctic.

In the assessment of candidates, particular emphasis will be placed on

  • interdisciplinary research potential and visions within the research area of physical oceanography in Greenland
  • Experience with the collection and analysis of oceanographic field data (e.g., CTD, moorings)
  • experience with the analysis of large datasets
  • ability to apply, promote, and communicate research results
  • scientific production at an international level
  • ability to attract funding for the research area
  • ability to contribute to the development of the Climate Research Center's internal and external collaboration.

Salary and employment conditions
Salary and employment conditions, including the right to relocation and moving expenses, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement applicable at the time of appointment between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

The position is limited to 2 years. There will be an opportunity for extension.

Housing
No staff housing is provided for the position. If an applicant already has staff housing through employment in the Self-Government, the right to assigned staff housing is maintained. The staff housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon termination of the employment relationship.

The Greenland Institute of Natural Resources provides access to rental housing for the first year of employment.
