We are looking for dedicated nurses for permanent positions or longer-term temporary contracts. Due to the thorough introduction and training that the work in the department requires, we prioritize temporary contracts of at least 3 months. However, we would prefer that you have the opportunity to stay even longer.

If you have previously been employed in the Greenlandic Health Service, or if you have knowledge of Greenlandic culture and language, it is a great advantage, but not a requirement.

About the Regional Hospital Ilulissat

The Regional Hospital Ilulissat is the largest hospital in the Avannaa Region and serves as a central treatment facility for the entire region. We have regular visits from specialists in various fields, and our staff collaborates closely across professional groups.

The hospital includes among other things:

• Inpatient department
• Outpatient clinic and emergency room
• Surgery department
• X-ray and laboratory
• Physiotherapy
• Health care
• Somatic and psychiatric home nursing
• Midwifery center with births

About the inpatient department

The inpatient department has 21 beds distributed over 12 rooms and receives both adults and children with acute medical, surgical, and psychiatric issues.

Here you will have a broad clinical everyday life with tasks within:

• Acute nursing
• Medical and surgical patient pathways
• Observation and treatment of acute patients
• Maternity and childbirth pathways
• Palliative care in collaboration with the palliative team in Nuuk
• Rehabilitation after fractures and alloplasty
• Nursing of patients at the patient hotel before and after treatment elsewhere in Greenland

The department also functions as an emergency reception for Ilulissat and provides telephone support to the healthcare system in Qaanaaq and Upernavik outside normal working hours.

We are looking for you who

• Are a licensed nurse
• Have 1-2 years of experience.
• Preferably have experience with acute nursing
• Work independently and take responsibility
• Maintain an overview in busy and unpredictable situations
• Have good collaboration skills and contribute positively to the community
• Have a desire to work in a cross-cultural organization

Experience with suturing, placement of IVs, and plaster treatment is an advantage, but not a requirement.

Practical information

The positions are full-time with a 40-hour work week and mixed shifts, including day, evening, and night shifts, as well as weekends every 2nd weekend.

Why a minimum of 3 months temporary contract?

Our department handles many different functions and complex patient pathways across specialties. This requires a thorough introduction to both tasks, patient groups, journal systems, and the special conditions that apply in the Greenlandic healthcare system. Therefore, we prioritize temporary contracts of at least 3 months, so both the employee and the department get the most benefit from the training process, and so we ensure continuity and quality in patient treatment.

Housing will be provided according to the rules applicable in the Greenlandic Health Service at any given time.

Salary and employment

Salary and employment conditions, including the right to travel for relocation and moving expenses, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement applicable at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

If you are not a Nordic citizen, please note that employment is conditional on a valid residence and work permit. A residence and work permit can only be applied for upon agreed employment.
