Greenland Police is seeking an interpreter for the Prosecution Authority.

At the Local Prosecution Authority of Greenland Police, we are looking for an engaged interpreter who can assist with both written translations and other language tasks across the Greenland Police.

As an interpreter, you will play an important role in the police's work to create safety for the citizens of Greenland. You will also become part of an exciting and varied daily life, where you will have the opportunity to use your language skills on many different types of tasks.

About the job

The Local Prosecution Authority primarily deals with criminal cases and has all of Greenland as its area of responsibility. As an interpreter, you will therefore have a broad contact surface and will solve tasks for different parts of the Greenland Police.

Your tasks will include written translations between Greenlandic and Danish. These may be translations related to criminal cases, but also more general communication tasks – for example, texts for the police's social media and other informational materials.

You will have a varied workday, where the tasks can change in both content and complexity. This requires that you can convey a message precisely while maintaining nuances, tone, and meaning in the translation.

You will be part of a smaller professional community with our current interpreter, where there are good opportunities for sparring and knowledge sharing in daily life.

As an employee of the police and by virtue of your role as an interpreter, you will be exposed to sensitive and serious case areas. We therefore prioritize a good working environment and offer, among other things, regular psychological supervision.

There will be translations to and from Greenlandic and Danish.

Employment and terms

Currently, there is a larger effort to equalize salary and employment terms for civil servants in Greenland with those for civil servants in Denmark and the Faroe Islands as much as possible. Therefore, there may be changed terms from April 1, 2026, onwards.

Compensation will be based on education level and qualifications, and in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the relevant organization.

The working hours are 40 hours per week.

The employment period is unlimited.

A non-furnished staff housing may be assigned to the position, for which you will pay a deposit, rent, and ongoing expenses. The size of the housing depends on the number of people in your household. Since there may be waiting time for the assignment of staff housing, a furnished temporary housing will be made available in the meantime. No temporary housing will be provided if you are already residing in Nuuk.

Free relocation of personal belongings and travel expenses for you and your household will be provided in accordance with the applicable rules at any given time.

It is a prerequisite that you can be security cleared at the necessary level for the position. You may be required to perform functions where a higher security clearance is required. Employment in the police and prosecution authority is conditional on your ability to maintain the required security clearance at all times.

The Greenland Police has implemented smoke- and nicotine-free working hours.
