We are looking for nurses and midwives for both permanent positions and short-term contracts in our Gynecological/Obstetric department starting from December 1, 2026, or by agreement.

We are seeking new colleagues who can help during the winter period over Christmas and New Year (and preferably longer) and who can work purposefully with what is important for the patient. This means that in your communication, you are attentive, ask questions before you provide answers, and that the nursing care you plan and perform is always in interaction with the specific patient and their relatives.

This also means that you are engaged in your work and have a positive and appreciative outlook on life that influences both patients, relatives, and colleagues.

Experience with obstetrics, including gynecology and/or palliative care, is an advantage but not a requirement. The most important thing is that you are willing to participate in all specialties and different types of patient pathways.

A bit about K3

The Gynecological/Obstetric department K3 receives gynecological as well as obstetric patients from all over Greenland. Admissions to the department can be planned or acute. Pregnant women are covered by the perinatal guidelines and are admitted after assessment in the department. Pregnant women who experience complications related to pregnancy and/or childbirth that require treatment at K3 are also received in the department.

The average length of stay varies greatly and depends, among other things, on the admission diagnosis. Most patients are admitted for less than a week, which is why there is a high patient flow in the department.

The department has 10 maternity/pregnancy places as well as space for 2 "grow-babies," which are our premature rooms. In addition, the department has 8 places for gynecological patients and breast patients. There are often general gynecological patients, whereas more complicated gynecological disorders and procedures are referred to the National Hospital.

The department also manages palliative patient pathways, where it is important that dying patients and their relatives experience safety, care, and support from the healthcare staff in their final time. These patients may be admitted for longer periods.

The department is located adjacent to our maternity ward and has a close collaboration with the midwives. In addition, we work closely with the health visitors and have a strong focus on early intervention.

The department also places great emphasis on competence development and a strong professional culture. Every Tuesday, we hold professional meetings focusing on improvement and development in the department. In addition, monthly Thursday teaching and other professional activities within the specialties are organized.

The department collaborates with health centers and regional hospitals throughout Greenland and is Greenland's only specialty department for newborns and births.

The department has a growing and stable workforce, which is predominantly bilingual. In addition, we have a good network of short-term employees, a permanent interpreter, and associated senior doctors.

Queen Ingrid's Hospital is a modern hospital consisting of four areas: psychiatric, medical, surgical, and emergency. From Queen Ingrid's Hospital, we have a guiding function in relation to the 5 health regions in Greenland.

The Surgical Area consists of a total of five departments: Orthopedic Surgery / K1, Parenchymal Surgery / K2, Gynecological and Obstetric / K3, Maternity Ward, and Surgical Outpatient Clinic. The area is led by a chief nurse and a leading consultant.

Salary and employment

Salary and employment conditions, including the right to relocation and moving expenses, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

If you are not a Nordic citizen, please note that employment is conditional on a valid residence and work permit. A residence and work permit can only be applied for upon agreed employment.
