The Government of Greenland is seeking a strategically strong and experienced communications manager who can ensure a professional and effective communication effort in a politically governed organization. You must be able to navigate confidently in the intersection of politics, administration, media, and citizens while leading and developing the organization's communication function.
Office of the Chairman
The Office of the Chairman has a central coordinating and leading role in ensuring the Chairman of the Government of Greenland the best possible basis for cooperation in the Government and in the central administration. The department consists of the Management Secretariat, the Legal Department, HR Development, the Constitutional Department, the Department of Governance, and a communications department where the vacant communications manager position is located.
About the Position
As the communications manager in the Government of Greenland's communications department, you will be responsible for strengthening and developing the communication efforts of the Government of Greenland and the central administration, press management, and the dissemination of the Government's messages. Additionally, it will be your task to centralize communication in the Government of Greenland's central administration.
You will be responsible for building a strong and well-functioning communications department focused on professional quality, strategic advice, and cross-functional collaboration.
Your tasks will include:
- Developing and implementing the central administration's action plan for communication
- Advising political leadership and other departments on communication and press
- Ensuring professional handling of press and media inquiries
- Strengthening strategic press management and ensuring analytical media monitoring
- Preparing communication plans in connection with political matters
- Enhancing the organization's digital communication and presence on social media
- Leading, motivating, and developing the communications department's employees
- Managing communication crises and ensuring timely and credible communication
You will be part of the management group in the Office of the Chairman and are expected to actively contribute to the development of both the department and the central administration. You report directly to the department head in the Office of the Chairman.
About You
We are looking for a strategically strong leader and communicator with solid political understanding, who can see across political agendas and transform that into messages that support the Government of Greenland's work and goals.
Specifically, we envision that you:
- Have a relevant academic education
- Have experience with strategic communication, preferably from a politically governed organization
- Possess a good knowledge of the Government of Greenland's central administration
- Have strong analytical skills and a good understanding of processes
- Have good writing skills, including a flair for political communication
- Are a skilled advisor with impact and good collaboration skills
- Focus on a strong professional working community with trust and high ambitions
- Are a team player who is proactive with a constructive approach to collaboration and relationships
We expect that you have knowledge of and insight into societal conditions. It is an advantage if you are bilingual in Greenlandic and Danish.
Employment Conditions
The position is currently salary set corresponding to 38. The salary with fixed salary components and your own contribution to pension in LR 38 amounts to DKK 64,048 monthly and DKK 768,576 annually as of April 1, 2026.
Employment will initially be on collective agreement terms, where applicants who may already be civil servants under the civil service laws for public Greenland may be employed on civil servant terms.
For the position, there is no maximum service time set, and the provisions regarding compensation for overtime and the provisions regarding compensation for lost days off do not apply; the working hours are initially 40 hours weekly.
Salary and employment conditions, including the right to relocation and moving expenses, in accordance with the applicable collective agreement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization at the time of commencement.
Housing
No staff housing is provided for the position. If an applicant already has staff housing through employment in the Self-Government, the right to assigned staff housing is retained. The staff housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon termination of the employment relationship.
