The Department of Children, Youth, and Families is seeking a new agency director starting October 1, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter. As the Agency Director, you will be the top leader in the Social Agency, which is an organizational unit under the Department of Children, Youth, Justice, and Gender Equality.
The Social Agency plays a central role in the development of the Greenlandic welfare society. Every day, the agency works to strengthen efforts for children, young people, families, and citizens with special needs across the country. As the central social professional agency of the Naalakkersuisut, the Social Agency translates political objectives into concrete solutions in close collaboration with the Department of Children, Youth, Justice, and Gender Equality, the municipalities, and a wide range of other partners. The goal is to create sustainable solutions that strengthen social efforts and make a real difference for citizens throughout Greenland.
The Naalakkersuisut has chosen to maintain the Social Agency as an independent agency. This underscores the central role the agency plays in the social sector and the importance of close cooperation between the agency, the department, and the municipalities. As the agency director, you will therefore have a key position in the work of creating coherence between political objectives, high social professional quality, and the solutions that citizens encounter every day throughout Greenland.
As the Social Agency collaborates closely with municipalities, institutions, and citizens throughout Greenland, it is a prerequisite for the position that you have a deep understanding of Greenlandic culture, master both Greenlandic and Danish in writing and speech, and have the ability to create strong relationships across the country.
Areas of Responsibility
- The agency director is responsible for leading the Social Agency as an organization in collaboration with the remaining management group and ensuring that the relevance of the Social Agency is balanced with the needs and resources in the social, health-promoting, and preventive areas. The primary tasks will therefore be to develop and strengthen municipal cooperation within the social and preventive areas. Additionally, the agency director must ensure close dialogue with the municipalities so that their work is supported and balanced as best as possible.
- The agency director is responsible for bridging policy and operations. It is the responsibility of the agency director, in collaboration with the management group, to contribute to the implementation of legislation and political goals that create results for citizens and society - and to ensure that established goals and results are met within the given financial framework.
- Preparation and follow-up on activity, service, and quality goals as well as action plans within the nationwide treatment offers, residential institutions, and crisis centers.
- The agency director must ensure that the Social Agency develops, communicates, monitors, and evaluates methods and practices so that they continuously meet the needs present in society. Additionally, the agency director must ensure and strengthen the important communication between the municipalities and the Social Agency, as well as the Department.
About You
- You have a deep understanding of social conditions in Greenland and a deep understanding of the health challenges within health promotion and prevention. You have a suitable academic educational background. You have experience with leadership and decision-making.
You have good collaboration skills and the ability to listen. You have experience working with municipalities across the country. You have good linguistic and communication skills. You have assertiveness and judgment, allowing you to confidently manage processes and prioritize tasks.
You have a deep understanding of the Greenlandic language, culture, and societal conditions.

The Social Agency is under the Department of Children, Youth, Justice, and Gender Equality and has the following 5 departments: Paarisa, Residential and Admission Department, Department for Advice to Caseworkers, Finance Department, and Secretariat. The departments work closely together, and it is a workplace that offers many professional challenges.

The Social Agency is a workplace with an exciting, relevant, and busy everyday life, where the level of ambition is high. The Social Agency is involved in implementing politically adopted strategies regarding health promotion and prevention. We ensure that the strategic objectives translate into concrete management initiatives in daily operations. One of the agency's central focus areas is collaboration with municipalities. The Social Agency works to strengthen cooperation with municipalities to handle health-promoting, preventive, developmental, and social professional advisory tasks. Another focus area of the Social Agency is to strengthen development within the residential institution sector while improving conditions for citizens with disabilities.
The Social Agency is under the Department of Children, Youth, Justice, and Gender Equality. The agency director reports directly to the head of the department.

Employment Conditions
The position is currently classified as equivalent to LR39 and follows the Agreement between the Naalakkersuisut and the Academic Organizations on salary and employment conditions for contract employees in the Government of Greenland and in the Greenlandic municipalities (The Common Management Agreement).
Employment will primarily be on contract terms, where applicants who may already be civil servants under the civil servant laws for the public Greenland may be employed on civil servant terms.
For the position, there is no maximum service time set, and the provisions regarding compensation for overtime and provisions regarding compensation for lost days off do not apply; the working time is primarily 40 hours weekly.
Salary and employment conditions, including the right to relocation and moving expenses, according to the applicable agreement at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.
Housing
No staff housing is provided for the position. If an applicant already has staff housing through employment in the Government, the right to assigned staff housing is retained. The staff housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon termination of the employment relationship.
