The children's home Sarliaq in Ilulissat is seeking a social educator to work with placed children and young people. The position requires experience with relational pedagogy and the ability to create meaningful activities. The working hours are 40 hours per week, and professional development is offered.

The children's home Sarliaq is a residential institution for placed children and young people located in Ilulissat, Greenland. There is room for a total of 20 children and young people in the age group 0-18 years distributed across 3 different departments. The division usually occurs based on age. The placed children have had a childhood marked by neglect and/or abuse and come from all over Greenland.

At Sarliaq, we work with relationship pedagogy in a recognizing perspective, a very structured environment, and focus on having a recognizing approach to the children and young people. We emphasize that they have a stable everyday life with schooling, leisure interests, and a social life outside the institution. On weekends and holidays, we try to offer the children good experiences in nature in the form of cabin trips, hunting and skiing trips, as well as participating in various events in the town.

We expect:

  • That you are stable/robust and engaged in your work.

  • That you can work structured and be a clear adult.

  • That you have experience working with placed children.

  • That you have a relevant education or experience in working with placed children and young people.

  • That you can plan and create meaningful activities for the children and young people.

  • That you are willing to go on colony and project trips to the settlements for up to 14 days at a time.

  • That you can work varying hours, e.g., morning, evening; and perform on-call duty.

  • That you are bilingual, Greenlandic & Danish.

Salary and employment conditions

Salary - and employment conditions, including the right to relocation and moving expenses, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement applicable at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

Housing

Unfurnished staff housing can be allocated for the position according to the rules in force at any time. Housing cannot be allocated to individuals who already have staff housing or another residence owned by the municipality or the Government of Greenland. Rent and deposit are paid according to the rules in force for the allocated housing. The staff housing is tied to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon termination of the employment relationship.

Rent and housing standards may vary depending on the age of the housing, ownership conditions, etc. There may be a waiting period for the allocation of permanent staff housing, which is why temporary accommodation may occur, including in smaller housing communities or hotel apartments, for which taxation occurs. It is not possible to keep larger pets such as dogs or cats in staff or temporary housing.
