Naalakkersuisut
Posted 1 day ago
We are looking for an AC officer/special consultant for the aviation sector in Nuuk. The position involves responsibility for political decisions and legislation, as well as collaboration with relevant authorities. You will work with complex issues and contribute to Greenland's infrastructure and community development.
Do you want to work with Greenland's critically important aviation sector at a time when Greenland's traffic and strategic significance is undergoing significant development? Are you interested in working closely with the political level and contributing to decision-making, legislation, and solutions that matter for citizens, businesses, and social cohesion in Greenland?
Then a position as an AC officer/special consultant in the aviation sector at the Aeronautical Office in the Department of Housing, Infrastructure, Districts, and Emergency Management might be something for you.
Close to politics, society, and concrete solutions
As an employee in the Department of Housing, Infrastructure, Districts, and Emergency Management, you will be part of the administrative engine room where political decisions are translated into concrete initiatives. Working in a department means that we must ensure that the political level has a solid basis for decision-making and that political decisions can be translated into concrete solutions.
You will work closely with the political level of the Naalakkersuisut and contribute to decision-making, briefings, legislative work, and analyses in an area of great societal importance.
In the infrastructure area, there is often a short distance between analysis, political decision, and practical reality. Your work will therefore have a direct impact on both cities, residences, traffic connections, and collaboration with external authorities and actors.
Generalist with a focus on the aviation sector
You will primarily be responsible for tasks in the aviation sector. You may also have ad hoc tasks within, among other things, traffic and telecommunications as well as service contracts for passenger transport.
Aviation and airports are central to Greenland's social cohesion, mobility, supply, business development, and international relations.
The Aeronautical Office collaborates with relevant national authorities on legislation and framework conditions for aviation in Greenland to ensure solutions that take into account both international and national regulations as well as the geographical, climatic, and traffic conditions that apply here in the country.
The aviation sector includes, among other things, 13 airports and 46 helicopter landing sites as well as the general rules and frameworks for aviation in Greenland. The Greenlandic airport structure and traffic service are undergoing significant development with the construction of new runways in Nuuk, Ilulissat, and Qaqortoq.
The Aeronautical Office manages the service contract with Greenland Airports Regional A/S for the operation of public airports and helicopter landing sites in Greenland. In addition, the office has close contact with Air Greenland, which flies to all heliports and airports in the country.
You can read more about Greenland's airports at https://kanat.gl/da/groenlands-infrastruktur/lufthavne [DM1] and about aviation regulations at https://www.trafikstyrelsen.dk/arbejdsomraader/luftfart.
The tasks
You will have a broad role with responsibility and variation. Your tasks may include:
- writing drafts of responses to inquiries from citizens and politicians
- writing drafts of decision proposals
- writing briefings for politicians
- developing policies, strategies, and solution proposals
- preparing analyses, notes, and reports on traffic, economic, and operational issues
- preparing consultation responses on legislative proposals and decision proposals from other departments
- representing the department at meetings with stakeholders and partners
- identifying new challenges and opportunities in the area
- collaborating with national authorities, agencies, companies, and external stakeholders
- project management and coordination
- providing contributions and support to colleagues
The tasks will be organized in close dialogue with the office manager and will be adapted to your skills, experience, and professional development. Regardless of your skills, you will need to have close dialogue with the office manager about the content of everything you write.
There may be business trips to Greenland, Denmark, and abroad, depending on which tasks need to be solved.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for someone who:
- has a relevant academic education
- is motivated by societal development, politics, and responsibility
- can work structured in a changing and politically governed everyday life
- can communicate complex issues clearly and precisely
- is interested in working at the intersection of law, politics, economics, and practice
- thrives with both independent tasks and close collaboration with colleagues
- has an eye for both details and larger strategic contexts
Knowledge of Greenland, public administration, the transport sector, or aviation is an advantage but not a requirement. The most important thing is that you have strong analytical skills, good writing ability, judgment, and a desire and ability to learn the area thoroughly.
If you are newly graduated, we will ensure thorough training. If you have experience, you will quickly gain independent responsibility.
What do you get?
You will receive:
- a job in an area of great societal and political significance
- insight into and influence on decisions regarding Greenland's future infrastructure
- a daily life close to the political level of the Naalakkersuisut
- the opportunity to work with aviation, airports, and service contracts in a Greenlandic context
- a strong professional environment with engaged colleagues
- a workplace with a fast pace, high ambitions, and room for professional development
