Midwife for Tasiilaq Hospital

We are looking for a midwife for a temporary position in Tasiilaq from September 8, 2026, or as soon as possible until October 3, 2026.

If you can offer a temporary position, we are very interested, as you will help maintain Tasiilaq as a birthplace. Come and be the only midwife and experience our beautiful nature and culture in East Greenland.

You will share shifts with our birth assistant.

We can offer:

  • Good interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Tasks that include: Pregnancy consultations, birth shifts, early intervention, contraception, as well as close collaboration with our doctors, interpreters, and interdisciplinary cooperation with the municipality, health care, and the ward regarding pregnancy and childbirth.
  • The birth shifts are shared with a trained birth assistant (a Greenlandic education that no longer exists, birth assistants can receive normal births).

We are looking for you who:

  • Are a trained midwife and have experience in the field, as the position requires a lot of independence because you are mostly the only midwife in the town.
  • Have good collaboration skills and are adaptable to the situations that a midwife may encounter.
  • Can advise on contraception and help prevent abortions and sexually transmitted diseases.
  • Can support and help our pregnant women have a good and healthy pregnancy and childbirth.

About us:

  • The regional hospital in Tasiilaq is located in the Kangia region, East Greenland, where we also have 5 associated villages that have their own nursing stations.
  • People from the villages also come to Tasiilaq to give birth.
  • The midwife office and the delivery room are an integrated part of the regional hospital, which also consists of a medical clinic, a ward with 18 beds, an operating room, an emergency room, midwife functions including births, health care, psychiatric and somatic home nursing, TB nursing, and the town's pharmacy.
  • There are about 50 births a year. Some pregnant women at risk of various complications are often referred to give birth in Nuuk.
  • We are around 50 employees and have 5 associated health centers in Tiilerilaaq, Sermiligaaq, Kulusuk, Kuummiut, and Isertoq. Pregnant women from the villages come in for scheduled pregnancy check-ups and births.
  • We place great importance on interdisciplinary collaboration; it is an important part of the midwife's work to support, refer, and help pregnant women with contact with municipal authorities as some of the pregnant women may be psychosocially burdened. This may involve meetings regarding late abortions or referrals for early intervention as well as contact regarding housing conditions.
  • The midwife's task is also to advise individuals on contraception, support the pregnant woman during pregnancy, but also support the pregnant woman if she wishes to have an abortion.

A bit about Tasiilaq:

Tasiilaq is East Greenland's largest town with about 3000 inhabitants, including the 5 surrounding villages.

The town is remote with the most beautiful nature and views right outside the door.

The nature nearby offers many hiking opportunities, fresh air, and in winter the possibility for cross-country skiing, going to the ski lift, and taking snowmobile and dog sledding trips, via local tourist operators. Especially in summer, there are opportunities for sailing and cabin trips.
