Consultant for Special Education

Avannaata Municipality is seeking a Consultant for Special Education in Misi-Avannaa with employment starting on September 1, 2026, or by further agreement.

The position is located in MISI Avannaa in Ilulissat, which falls under the Administration for Culture, Schools, and Preschool, and the consultant reports to the head of MISI Avannaa.

MISI-Avannaa is responsible for educational psychological counseling and handles tasks within both the school and daycare sectors throughout Avannaata Municipality.

The consultant is part of MISI Avannaa's team, which currently consists of a leader, 2 psychologists, 1 consultant, and a trainee.

We are looking for:

A consultant for special education with experience in special pedagogical work. The right applicant finds it exciting to work in a system that is based on Greenlandic language and culture, and:

is dynamic and development-oriented

is robust and can work independently and flexibly in relation to diverse tasks.

Conducts educational assessments (observations/tests) of referred children.

Informs the school/institution and parents about the study and provides guidance regarding areas of intervention.

Prepares reports on observations, tests, and conversations regarding each child.

Advises parents, educators, and teachers regarding children with special needs and provides guidance on the organization of special education.

Takes the initiative for preventive education/work.

·Advises and guides the school's/institution's staff – possibly on pedagogical days (plans and conducts mini-courses for the school's/institution's staff)

Involves necessary, supplementary expertise and refers to other instances.

Keeps himself and the schools informed about new materials and teaching methods.

Elementary school teacher with further education, e.g. special education teacher training, speech therapist, PD in special education, master's in educational psychology or similar.

The position requires independence in organizing the work and routine in using a computer.

Employment is based on the agreement of June 28, 2019, between the Government of Greenland and the Union of Teachers in Greenland, IMAK, for teachers in the public school system in Greenland, among others.

No staff housing is provided for the position.

Child certificate:

This position is subject to the law requiring the procurement of a child certificate.

We would like to point out that the start date can only be agreed upon once the municipality has received a satisfactory child certificate from the National Police.

Criminal record: This position is subject to the law on the obligation to obtain a criminal record. According to the law, employment can only begin once the municipality has received a satisfactory criminal record from the Police.
