Avannaata Municipality is seeking a Consultant for Special Education in Misi-Avannaa with employment on September 1 2026 or by further agreement.

The position is located in MISI Avannaa in Ilulissat, which falls under the Administration for Culture, Schools, and Preschool, and the consultant reports to the head of MISI -Avannaa.

MISI-Avannaa is responsible for educational psychological counseling and handles tasks within both the school and daycare sectors throughout Avannaata Municipality.

The consultant is part of the MISI Avannaa team, which currently consists of a leader, 2 psychologists, 1 consultant, and an assistant.

We are looking for:

A consultant for special education with experience in special educational work. The right applicant finds it exciting to work in a system that is based on Greenlandic language and culture, and:

·is dynamic and development-oriented

·is robust and can work independently and flexibly in relation to diverse tasks.

Primary Responsibilities and Tasks

·Conducts educational assessments (observations/tests) of referred children.

·Informs schools/institutions and parents about the assessment and advises on areas of intervention.

·Prepares reports on observations, tests, and conversations regarding individual children.

·Advises parents, educators, and teachers regarding children with special needs and guides on the organization of special education.

·Initiates preventive education/work.

·Advises and guides the school's/institution's staff – possibly on pedagogical days (plans and conducts mini-courses for the school's/institution's staff)

·Involves necessary supplementary expertise and refers to other instances.

·Keeps themselves and the schools informed about new materials and teaching methods.

Qualifications and Competencies

Elementary school teacher with further education, e.g., special teacher education, speech therapist, PD in special education, master's in educational psychology, etc.

The position requires independence in organizing work and routine in using a computer.

Salary and Employment Conditions

Employment is in accordance with the agreement of June 28, 2019, between Naalakkersuisut and Ilinniartitsisut Meeqqat Atuarfianneersut Kattuffiat, IMAK for teachers in elementary schools in Greenland, etc.

No housing is provided for the position.

Child Certificate:
This position is subject to the law requiring the collection of a child certificate.

We must therefore point out that the start date can only be agreed upon once the municipality has received a satisfactory child certificate from the National Police.

Criminal Record: This position is subject to the law requiring the collection of a criminal record. According to the law, employment can only begin once the municipality has received a satisfactory criminal record from the Police.
