We are looking for a Nurse for the Regional Hospital Ilulissat

We are looking for a Nurse for a permanent position starting from August 15, 2026 OR if you have worked before in the Greenlandic healthcare system, the chance is now for you to come back and substitute for 6 weeks.

We are looking for a new colleague who wants to be part of our permanent team. If you are a nurse with broad clinical experience and are familiar with Greenlandic culture and language, it will be a plus.

About us:

The Regional Hospital Ilulissat is the largest hospital in the Avannaa Region. The hospital handles many tasks for the region's other health centers and often has specialists passing through with their various specialties. In addition to a ward, the hospital also has an outpatient clinic with an emergency room, medical consultations, and a lifestyle outpatient clinic. The hospital has two operating rooms, X-ray, laboratory, physiotherapy, health care, somatic and psychiatric home nursing, and midwifery with births. We are a large interdisciplinary and multicultural staff group that enjoys learning from each other's expertise – we therefore have ongoing training. We value task-solving, collaboration, and the work environment highly. Our core values are respect, professionalism, care, trust, and honesty. We are a workplace that is proud of our work. We handle many tasks in a very challenging everyday life.

The department has 21 beds distributed across 12 patient rooms. We receive both adults and children with acute medical, surgical, and psychiatric issues for assessment, observation, care, and treatment. Approximately 120 women give birth at the Regional Hospital each year, from all over the Avannaa Region. Therefore, the department receives women for childbirth and postpartum care. The department provides palliative care in collaboration with the palliative team in Nuuk to patients at the end of life. Similarly, the department works with physiotherapy as a rehabilitation center for the region's patients after alloplasty and fractures.

The department serves as the emergency reception and emergency room for the town with about 5,440 inhabitants, and the emergency phone from Qaanaaq and Upernavik is also managed from here when it is not a weekday. Experience in suturing wounds, placing IVs, and possibly applying casts would be an advantage. The ward provides nursing care at the patient hotel, which is for patients who are on their way to/from other hospitals in Greenland.

In the department, there are positions for 6 nurses, 2 anesthesia nurses, 6 assistants, and 4 social and health helpers. We work with documentation in electronic patient records (Cosmic).

We also have nursing students and health assistant trainees from various health professional education programs. If you thrive in a role as a mentor for future colleagues, there is also a good opportunity for that here.

The position is a full-time position with a 40-hour work week in mixed shifts; 8 evening and night shifts per month.

We offer:

  • An exciting position with a varied and independent everyday life
  • Framework with time for nursing
  • Introduction and training
  • A good and supportive work environment
  • Opportunity for guidance and sparring from colleagues, leaders, doctors, and anesthesia nurses
  • Present and available leadership
  • Influence on shift planning
  • If you are newly graduated or new to somatics, we offer thorough training and a mentor

We are looking for you who:

  • Are a trained and Greenlandic authorized nurse
  • Have 1-2 years of experience from acute nursing
  • Are meticulous and able to maintain overview in pressured situations
  • Can prioritize and work independently

The hospital is beautifully located with a view of the Icefjord. The town has cafes, restaurants, and shops. Likewise, Ilulissat and the Icefjord are a magnet for tourists and tourist operators.
