Flexible and quick-learning intern for the dormitories at GUX Aasiaat
To work with the young people living in the dormitories at GUX Aasiaat, we are looking for an intern in training as a pedagogue or social assistant or similar, who is eager to learn about our area, who with respect for the young and their situation as students can help structure the students' everyday life, and assist in building a leisure life that reasonably aligns with the young people's studies.
The young people in the dormitories come from the entire northwest coast of Greenland, and will therefore typically be far from family and friends in the initial situation. Longing and homesickness are therefore significant in everyday life.
Attached to the gymnasium's dormitories is a corps of dormitory pedagogues who help structure the everyday life for the young and who to some extent fill the void that family and friends leave for the individual.
There will often be a number of young people who have difficulty getting out of bed in the morning, there will be young people who cannot see the benefit of consuming nutritious meals, and there will be young people who struggle to find their way to bed in the evening because computer games are more fun than sleeping. Finally, there are young people who do not believe that homework is a natural part of everyday life.
As a new intern, you will have three direct colleagues with a pedagogical or similar background. Furthermore, you will to some extent need to work together with the school's teachers and other staff.
If the above sounds interesting to you, we would like to receive a motivated application where you explain your education and the experiences you can bring to the job. Furthermore, your application should include reflections on how you will take on the task of providing space for the young person's development as an independent individual - and teenager - while ensuring that the young person is focused on education, healthy living, and active participation in (local) society.
As an intern, you will among other things
Manage the daily contact with the dormitory residents in the dormitories for which you will be trained
Initiate and participate in activities for dormitory residents
Be able to participate in hygiene and basic healthy cooking
Ensure that the dormitory residents comply with the rules of the dormitories
Be part of the duty roster together with the other dormitory pedagogues.
Work closely with the school's other staff, primarily cafeteria staff, educational counselors, and school consultants
We expect
That you are in the process of becoming educated as a pedagogue or have another relevant social education program.
That you are communicatively skilled and will learn a systematic and appreciative approach to pedagogical work
That you are independent and structured
That you are interested in working with young people in the age group 15 – 25 years
That you see a challenge in creating a future for the young people of northern Greenland
That you are a good example for the dormitory residents
That you are empathetic and can engage in dialogue with the dormitory residents
That you have a good sense of humor and are welcoming
We offer
Engaged colleagues
Opportunity for significant responsibility and independent tasks
Great freedom to develop pedagogical initiatives for the dormitory residents
Unique opportunities for cross-country skiing, kayaking, and adventure racing
Employee benefits such as access to a gym, loan of kayaks and skis
Salary and employment conditions
Salary and employment conditions, including the right to travel for arrival and departure and relocation of belongings, in accordance with the applicable collective agreement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization at the time of commencement.
Working hours are 30 hours per week according to the applicable collective agreement.
Housing
Unfurnished dormitory accommodation can be provided for the position according to the applicable rules at any given time. Rent and deposit are paid according to the applicable rules for the assigned accommodation. The dormitory accommodation is linked to the internship relationship and must be vacated upon termination of the employment relationship.
Information about the position can be obtained from dormitory manager Karl Jørgen Geisler geisler@gux-aasiaat.gl or phone +299 89 49 10.
Application deadline August 18, 2026. Start date September 1, 2026, or by further agreement.
