Ilisimatusarfik is looking for a student advisor to support approximately 600 students. The position involves personal guidance, career counseling, and collaboration with various stakeholders. You must be proficient in Greenlandic, Danish, and English to communicate effectively with students from diverse backgrounds.
Are you passionate about helping students? Do you want to promote a good student life at Ilisimatusarfik? And do you appreciate good colleagues, a varied workday, the opportunity to make a difference, and leave your own mark - yes, then we have just the position for you.
We are looking for a student advisor for the Study Service at Ilisimatusarfik as soon as possible. The working hours are 40 hours a week.
About the Study Service:
We are in the Study Service, 12 employees serving approximately 600 active students across 12 programs.
The university's administration, of which the Study Service is a part, plays a very important role in the organization and helps support the students, teachers, colleagues, citizens, and partners. It is important that you see your role in relation to a group of different people, but keep in mind that first and foremost we are here for our students - and we are here when they need help.
About the position
The primary task of the student advisor is to provide personal guidance to students at Ilisimatusarfik in collaboration with the department heads and the Study Service. Since the student advisor has dialogue with all students who reach out, it is a great advantage to be able to speak 3 languages because Ilisimatusarfik is an international educational institution, with students who also come from abroad. However, the majority of students speak Greenlandic, so it is important that the student advisor can communicate in the Greenlandic language, as some students only speak Danish and English, it is required that the student advisor can also communicate in Danish and English.
The student advisor is also part of the Team at the Study Service and ad hoc tasks must be solved as needed.
Student guidance includes:
- Personal, group, and collective guidance of students
- Career guidance for students
- Information and guidance about programs for applicants and guidance centers
- Collaboration with qualifying programs, the business community, and other stakeholders
- Presentations and workshops for students on topics such as exam anxiety, reading techniques, etc.
- Interdisciplinary collaboration between departments to achieve a high completion rate and increase well-being among students at Ilisimatusarfik
- Ad hoc tasks as needed
We offer:
- Good opportunities for professional development through sparring, supervision, and courses
- A workplace with the opportunity to make a significant difference for students at Ilisimatusarfik
- A good working environment with employee well-being as a priority
- A fantastic cohesive team with skilled and dedicated colleagues
- Supervision of external partners
We are looking for you who…
- Has relevant education, e.g., social worker or similar supplemented with VGU and preferably with an advanced degree to VGU
- Has experience working with students, and experience from a similar position is an advantage
- Masters Greenlandic at a native level as well as Danish and English in writing and speaking, because personal and written guidance can occur in any of the 3 languages
- Has good knowledge of Greenlandic society, culture, and education system
- Is committed to helping young and adult students and is motivated by making a positive difference
- Is a go-getter with the ability to inspire and motivate others
- Has good collaboration and communication skills and thrives in interdisciplinary collaborations
- Understands the importance of collaboration across all departments at Ilisimatusarfik
- Is socially inclined and possesses strong relational skills
- Has a positive approach to tasks and works independently and responsibly
- Can relate to relevant legislation, handle case processing, and make qualified decisions
The job involves having a very broad contact surface. Therefore, you must be outgoing, proactive, and be a skilled communicator with good language skills.
In the job, there are many conversations - also difficult conversations about students' challenges on the study front, but also about personal struggles that can have negative consequences for their studies. You are often the first person the student meets and talks to in a difficult situation. Therefore, you must be resilient and engaged, but also conflict-resolving and, not least, be a role model that students can comfortably talk to.
We understand that guidance cannot always be scheduled. This means that you must be able to thrive in a day with constant interruptions and have many balls in the air.
