We are looking for a nature manager to work with biodiversity and nature conservation in Nuuk. The position involves case processing and development tasks within nature management, focusing on ensuring coherence between national and international efforts. The application deadline is August 13, 2026.
Application deadline: August 13, 2026
Interviews: Interviews will be held in weeks 34-35, 2026
Start date: October 1, 2026, or by further agreement
Workplace: Nuuk
Do you want to help shape Greenland's nature management?
Do you want to work with biodiversity and nature protection – and contribute to solutions with direct significance for the country? Then you might be our new colleague in the Nature Department!
About the position
As a colleague in the Nature Department, you will be part of the work to develop and implement Greenland's nature management and ensure coherence between national efforts and international collaborations. You will thus help to highlight how our priorities can contribute to solutions both for our citizens and across borders, and how global decisions affect Greenland's nature.
The position is largely characterized by classic civil service work with a focus on case processing and operations (approx. 75%) combined with professional development tasks (approx. 25%). You will be responsible for your own areas of responsibility and work both independently and in close collaboration with colleagues.
The work is predominantly office-based and involves limited travel activity. The emphasis of the position is on stable operations, authority tasks, and ensuring progress in specific cases rather than development projects.
Your tasks
You will have a diverse portfolio of tasks. Depending on your professional profile, you will have your own areas of responsibility and contribute to colleagues' tasks in various areas. This may include:
- Managing the nature protection law and Greenland's Biodiversity Strategy 2030
- Managing protected areas, including national parks, Ramsar areas, and the UNESCO area Ilulissat Icefjord
- Preparing scientific assessments (e.g., in connection with activities in the open land)
- Processing applications (e.g., flying in protected areas or CITES permits)
- Processing consultations (e.g., species management, invasive species, or genetic resources)
- Participating in national, regional, and international collaborations (e.g., OSPAR)
- Preparing political decision-making proposals
- Quality assuring materials for management
The position can be filled at the AC officer or special consultant level, depending on experience and competencies. Areas of responsibility and the distribution of operational and development tasks will be the same regardless of employment level.
- As an AC officer, you will primarily work with independent case processing within defined areas and contribute to the department's task resolution and development in close collaboration with colleagues.
- As a special consultant, you are expected to manage your own areas of responsibility, handle complex issues, and contribute to coordination as well as professional sparring across the department. You typically have 5-10+ years of experience, work with high independence and authority, and advise management and set direction.
We are looking for you who:
- Has a relevant higher education in natural sciences
- Has experience with nature management, preferably from a public organization – for the special consultant level, solid experience with complex cases and/or coordination is expected
- Has an understanding of political processes and the civil servant role
- Thrives in an organization with many stakeholders and changing agendas and tasks
- Enjoys case processing and is motivated by operational tasks
- Works in a structured manner and follows your tasks through to completion
- Focuses on quality, progress, and good workflows
- Can handle multiple cases simultaneously and maintain an overview
- Is a strong communicator, both in writing and verbally – preferably in Greenlandic, Danish, and English
- Has an understanding of Greenlandic societal conditions and a multicultural context
We offer
- An exciting and diverse position with significant societal importance
- An engaged and professionally strong team with good camaraderie and an informal tone
- The opportunity to work with Greenlandic nature policy and regional and international collaborations at a high level
- A workplace where well-being, development, and responsibility are in focus
Salary and employment conditions
Salary - and employment conditions according to the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.
