The Department of Construction and Environment is seeking an Operations Manager for waste management in Nuuk. The position involves daily management of the municipality's reception station and landfill, development of new treatment methods, and collaboration with external partners. The Administration for Construction and Environment, the Waste Center under the Department for Environment and Waste, is seeking an Operations Manager for the waste sector based in Nuuk.
The waste sector faces significant challenges in the coming years. Increasing waste volumes, stricter requirements for waste treatment, and capacity issues in current waste treatment facilities mean that new technology needs to be tested and new treatment methods implemented.
The operations manager will be responsible for the daily management of the municipal reception station and landfill. Currently, 11 people work in this area.
The position is located in Nuuk, but it may happen that the operations manager needs to participate in tasks in the municipality's other housing locations. The operations manager reports to the department head in the Department of Environment and Waste, but will also have close collaboration with the operations manager for the municipal contracting company. Additionally, the position will involve a large contact surface with external actors and partners.
The operations in the technical area and the supply area are combined in the Administration for Construction and Environment, including in the Department for Environment and Waste.
Tasks:

To manage the daily operations of the municipality's employees at the Waste Center as well as supervision of the landfill.

Planning of the daily management of staff, as well as delegation of tasks.

To actively contribute to the development of new treatment methods, implementation of new techniques, etc., in accordance with political decisions and the department head's instructions.

To participate in working groups / steering groups regarding new installations (e.g. new waste incineration)

Ensure that operations comply with established budgets

To continuously adapt the organization to the current situation and legal requirements.

Criminal record:
This position is subject to the law requiring the collection of a criminal record. According to the law, employment can only begin once the municipality has received a criminal record. We would therefore like to point out that the start date can only be agreed upon once the municipality has received the criminal record from the Police.
Salary and employment conditions:
Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the applicable agreement between the Government of Greenland, according to the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of appointment between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.
The employment will be subject to a 3-month probation period.
