The Department of Business, Raw Materials, Energy, Justice, and Equality is seeking an officer or special consultant to take on a central role in the authorities' management of mining. The position involves analytical work and impact assessments related to labor market and educational conditions as well as professional, economic, and societal aspects of the mineral sector.
The Department of Business, Resources, Energy, Justice, and Equality is seeking a full-time employee or a special consultant to take on a central role in the authorities' management of mining by ensuring that resource projects create real value for society and are conducted on an economically responsible basis.
The raw material sector in Greenland.
The development in the raw materials sector in Greenland is currently characterized by a strategic shift towards the green agenda and a particular new political interest in the opportunities within especially critical minerals. There are currently 2 active mines in production, and extensive exploration activities are underway. The continued strong interest in the raw material potential means new and increasingly larger tasks, including in the international profiling and marketing of the raw material potential.
It is the Department's finest task to develop the regulatory area so that the industry experiences a smooth cooperation partner and that the necessary considerations and supervision of activities are taken, so that they are in accordance with the legislation.
One of the Department's important tasks in connection with mineral resource activities is to ensure that the Greenlandic society receives the greatest possible benefits in terms of employment, business development, taxes, and other revenues. Therefore, we are looking for an economic officer or special consultant to help ensure employment as well as the involvement of local communities and businesses in connection with mineral resource activities.
We are an exciting workplace in rapid development. Our everyday life is characterized by a good tone and short lines of communication, where there is room to put your personal stamp on the results.
We work in a politically governed organization, and therefore it will be a crucial qualification that you thrive in implementing political decisions, neutrally and impartially.
The position
Greenland is increasingly characterized by increased exploration and mining. This development means that social aspects will play a larger role in the overall administration. You will, in collaboration with the rest of the Mineral Resources Authority, help ensure that Greenland gets the greatest possible benefit from resource development.
The new employee must be able to participate in and carry out analytical work and impact assessments within labor market and educational conditions, professional, economic, and societal aspects in the mineral sector.
The tasks include, among other things:
-
Assessment of the rights holder's royalty payments
-
Insight into the economic resilience of rights holders, including investment needs and risk appetite.
-
Preparation of cooperation agreements with external partners/countries, etc.
-
Representation in international forums and cooperation bodies.
-
Assessments of social impact analyses (Assessment of Social Sustainability) and accounting analyses.
-
Guided companies in the preparation of societal impact assessments.
-
Promote the local business community's engagement in the raw materials sector.
Profile
It is a great advantage if you have knowledge of Greenlandic language and culture. For applicants outside of Greenland, emphasis will be placed on the ability, willingness, and desire to work and live under different cultural conditions than the usual ones. Our everyday life consists of a broad contact surface both domestically and internationally. It is crucial that you can communicate effortlessly in English, both spoken and written. We will especially emphasize:
-
relevant higher education in economics
-
relevant experience, including preferably practical experience with socio-economic analysis or societal impact assessments
-
good skills for development and project-oriented work, including a broad professional understanding and the ability to quickly grasp new issues
-
desire and ability to collaborate with different professional groups
-
prepared to perform tasks within the other areas of the Raw Materials Authority's work, especially during peak periods
-
good English skills
-
can both collaborate and work independently
-
Applicants who are bilingual in Greenlandic/Danish in both writing and speaking will be preferred.
Salary and employment conditions
Salary and employment conditions, including the right to relocation and moving expenses, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.
Housing
An unfurnished staff housing can be assigned for the position according to the applicable rules at any given time. Housing cannot be assigned to individuals who already have staff housing or another property owned by the municipality or the Government of Greenland. Rent and deposit are paid according to the applicable rules for the assigned housing. The staff housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon termination of the employment relationship.
Rent and housing standards may vary depending on the age of the property, ownership conditions, etc. There may be a waiting period for the allocation of permanent staff housing, which is why temporary accommodation may occur, including in smaller housing communities or hotel apartments, for which taxation applies. It is not possible to keep larger pets such as dogs or cats in staff or temporary housing.
