The Maritime Training School is seeking two instructors for a new department in Ilulissat.

About the position

An exciting and varied position focused on teaching. A challenging job with many collaborators within the maritime environment. A work climate where collaboration and development are key words. Good opportunities for professional and personal development. The position is based in Ilulissat and is largely carried out throughout Greenland.

You are part of a team that consists of additional instructors, the head of the course department, and several hourly-paid teachers that the course department uses as needed. All employees contribute to the department's operations and the varying tasks associated with it.

Your primary tasks will be to conduct courses in basic sea and work safety for fishermen, GMDSS courses using the training department's mobile course set.

In addition, you will participate in the development and implementation of the department's other courses, depending on your skills and interests. Furthermore, you will be involved in managing the department's materials, equipment, and boats, as well as structuring maintenance, acquisitions, and repairs.

The Maritime College is a small organization where there is a need for collaboration between departments and flexibility to ensure education for students and trainees.

Therefore, great flexibility and the ability to handle changes to plans at short notice are required.

We expect that you:

  • It is preferred that you are a trained set skipper, first-class fishing skipper, or have a higher maritime education. Applicants with other maritime backgrounds may be considered, especially if part of the experience comes from school operations or the fishing industry.
  • That you have a background in the maritime industry and have served at sea.
  • Have a great desire to share your knowledge with our students.
  • Can be part of the team around teaching in close collaboration with colleagues.
  • Can work independently and meet agreed deadlines.
  • Mastering Danish and Greenlandic in speech and preferably also in writing.
  • Knowledge of DocuNote, Lectio, and Itreg will be an advantage.

In short, it should be just as fun and inspiring as it is effective to participate in the department's courses.

About travel activity

One can expect between 100 and up to 150 days of travel activity per year, depending on how many courses are held on the coast.

Salary and employment conditions

Salary and employment conditions, including the right to travel for joining and leaving and relocation of personal belongings, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

For an applicant with the right documentable competencies, employment as a special consultant, chief consultant, or senior advisor can occur in accordance with the applicable agreement.

Housing

No staff housing is allocated for the position. If an applicant already has staff housing through employment in the Self-Government, the right to the allocated staff housing is retained. The staff housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon the termination of the employment relationship.
